The doctor? Doctor who?

The new series has, 2 episodes in, been awesome.

Discuss.
TIMELORD BABY WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY AMY POND'S DAUGHTER.

Nice clever storyline, I love the subtle comedy, the twists and turns, the beautiful psuedo-science, the random inspirational speeches, the obscure links with aliens to the words of dying aliens and the overall dashing about and being heroic-ness.

Also, TIMELORD BABY THINGS WOOOOO!

Oh and strange how the Doctor didn't seem to have a problem killing the Silence.

Amy Pond is the Doctor's grandmother, finally putting to rest the "I'm half human... on my mother's side" debate!*

Good ol' Moffat, rile those fanboys up into a froth.

*I just made this up.

That half human bollocks was dropped wasn't it? I thought the only thing that survived that horrendous movie was Paul McGann as 8.

I have no idea, but I don't recall anything other than the inclusion of McGann as eight. I wasn't seriously speculating. If anything, the kid and the Silents are intertwined with the fate of the Time Lords...

I've seen a lot of fanwankery regarding the whole half human thing from that movie, and it's annoyed me almost as much as the looming in Lungbarrow. It's convoluted arsewater.

However re: the girl. I'm reserving judgement until there's more plot development. However I think it would be awesome if The Moff brought back at least a small Gallifreyan society. Like a little one that survived the Time War or something, and she was one of them.

There's one key difference between the half-human thing and the loom; one is from a canonical work...

But as we all know, the Doctor lies.

Do not read unless you want to know the future.
[showmore=Bloody Big Spoiler]There are definitely Time Lords and/or Time Lord related goings on this season.[/showmore]

I still greatly dislike the looming, but it seems RTD ignored it with constant references to 10's kids/parents/etc so I tend to pretend it didn't happen.

As he should, it's from a novel (Lungbarrow). The movie is canonical. The book is available online at the Beeb. I've got it bookmarked on my other computer, but you should be able to search for it. Still haven't got round to reading it...

What was the snake monster in 'the silence' flashback? The doctor was still in his current body but looked younger.

I think that all the time travel while pregnant can make a pseudo-timelord. It could be possible. Or it might be another accident with the TARDIS. Remember when Rose looked into it? What if Amy looks into the heart while pregnant.

I wonder if Moffat's bringing back another classic Who character, like Romana or the Rani.

I actually miss Davies' formula of bringing back some classic Who villain as the antagonist of every series finale. The last finale was a Man vs Nature story which made it kind of weak. A good adventure story requires a good villain!

Gah, I hate the whole pregnancy aspect so far. But it's a developing story so I'll give it a fair shot. It just came out of nowhere and it feels like a cheap drama ploy more than anything.

I do like the Silence, a lot. I hate Steven Moffat as a director, but he's very good at making up new enemies. The Weeping Angels have become a favorite of mine since their debut. It also allows for easy retcon, which is cool. Besides the pregnancy thing, I thought it was a good opening.
Oh and strange how the Doctor didn't seem to have a problem killing the Silence.

I thought that was strange at first too, but then I remembered that Moffat does not care about character consistency. A prime example being the season 5 finale when the dalek cried "MERCYYYYYY!" Degrading my favorite villains like that...nearly tore my bloody eyes out.

Smart, tough, sardonic, and puts The Doctor off his guard on a regular basis. What's not to like?

Eh? The Doctor did what he often does, he turned the tables on the plans laid out by the bad guys. He still gave them a chance to reform...

Daleks will do anything, even as much as make alliances or beg, to live long enough to triumph. It is completely consistent with their M.O. and one of their regularly-committed-to-screen traits.

Yes. I think her character and story arc is rather tragic and an interesting thread to pursue.

The actress is annoying, and completely unsuitable for the roll because she looks old enough to be his mother. Her attitude is grating when contrasted with the Doctor's brilliance. She 'just happens' to escape from a massive prison somehow all the time, which serves to make the prison irrelevant. She just has a general air of smugness which serves as a downer whenever she's in an episode.

All in all, she was badly cast and the character itself has an irritating personality. If we contrast it with Rose and the Doctor, we find that Song and the Doctor lack the subtle romantic undertones which are vital for a romance story.

The story itself did get a bit touching in the last episode, with that 'last/first kiss' moment and that goes to show how good the storyline could be. It's a pity that potential hasn't yet been reached.

Ah. You've yet to explore the appeal of an older woman to take you under her tutelage. I highly endorse them; much to learn.

What you see as smug and grating, I see as confident, courageous and pretty damn sexy. Everyone's intelligence pales in comparison to The Doctor but you can't have everyone fawning all over his brilliance all the bloody time. The man needs a proper foil and I think River fills that role nicely.

You really can't compare the two romantic situations. Rose was a naive girl and we watched their love story grow from beginning to tragic end. Song's story begins, for us anyway, at the end, after a long and eventful relationship has already taken place. She knows The Doctor's real name, ffs, of course she's going to be arrogant, that pretty much makes her the coolest woman in the universe.

Fully agree. I'm fairly confident at least some of that potential will be reached in the fullness of time.
