How do you define "a person" in the first place? A person is what the brain does (when the brain sleeps, the person is temporarily obliterated; when the brain is injured, the personal memories might be destroyed; when the brain has a certain problem, the personality splits, etc.). And the brain is what the nature does. What changes a person is the flow of the nature. What "He" wants is what the nature wants.

It's more accurately called psychological development. Have a look into Fowler's stages of Faith development.
