Hehe, well, it would be cool to get together over some multi sometime. :)

Oh, definitely. The minecraftPVP Aardvark or Badger servers might be a good idea. We could sort of team up and build a Lair of Reason or whatever, or raid peoples' bases if they make them too obvious. Or just kill each other for the sake of it, I suppose.

There are no other gods before me! Now, die! ....but first I need to know where I can buy this game so I can commence the smiting.

Was it not linked earlier in the thread?
http://www.minecraft.net/

Yeah, but I was hoping that there might be a release on disk I could pre-order or something for the final build of the game...I'm used to having physical copies for everything. Oh well, I'll make do.

Minecraft runs on Java. I doubt there will be a disc version any time this side of 2012 and there's certainly no plans by the developers to release it on disc, as far as I know.

Well it seems I'm totally ignorant on why Java = no disk release. I'm not even sure of what it is besides having some vague notion of it having something to do with graphical interfaces on my Blu-ray movies.

aside from any of that, minecraft is still considered a pre-release beta. Much of its popularity was gained while it was still in *alpha* Nobody except EA would release a beta to the public and charge for it.

Lol, sounds great.

Let's try something, it would be fun!

I'm uh.. kinda new, so... what now? :)

Hmmm...
Well we could revive the idea of an LoR gaming night/afternoon/morning (depending on where you live in the world).
Maybe today at about 22:00GMT? That's 17:00 in New York, 14:00 in California and 09:00 tomorrow morning in New Zealand, I think.
I''ve been playing around and I think the server aardvark.minecraftpvp.com is probably the best one. The area surrounding the spawn point is devatstated, but there is untouched land fairly close by, once you get across the huge TNT craters.

Thank you all for your testimonials to help me never, under any circumstances, try this game. I have far too much of a gaming addiction problem to let a game like this grab me by the yarbles.
If you have any yarbles...

Seriously, while I don't share, to the extreme, Meme's gaming addiction problem, I will recognize that I have been addicted to games in the past, so I'll pass.

Games you aren't addicted to are boring.
Yeah, but the adicting ones are like suckubus, they swalow your soul and you become a hobo because you haven't done anything else in life.

Well crap....

I didn't see this.

Why?

I was playing Minecraft.

Next Saturday, 21:00 GMT? That's 22:00 BST, but I'm not sure when the clocks change in other countries, so I don't know how convenient that would be for other people.

hmm, usually my internet is too laggy for online play, but it might work with Minecraft.

So....I DL'd the game over the weekend. Now I sit here at work fiending for some more time to play. I last left off trying to contain a monster spawner cage. I'm considering building a trap around it.

You could just put a torch on either side of it (I think that's sufficient... If not I guarantee that a torch on every side will be).

Yeah, but if you build a trap to drown the zombies with a collecting pool at the end you have easy access to limitless resources without having to fight them for it.

I did manage to seal off the immediate room with 2 torches on opposite sides, and an opening for sunlight to come through from the top for good measure.

Tylzen's friend's public server. Join:
[showmore=Videos]

:D :D :D[/showmore]

Server IP is as follows (found in the description of both linked videos):
83.222.240.183:29365

Also, there's a Mumble server which to make communication easier by allowing us to talk directly:
85.236.101.45:7737

I would recommend using that server over the minecraftPVP servers I've written about further up this thread. It's got a nicer, less competitive or distrustful atmosphere to it.

Build a full-scale replication of the world of pokemon. Here's a map. Get to it.

I'm actually planning on getting to know the world-editors and such and propably will try to replicate my hometown at some point. Build the terrain via editor and the buildings by hand afterwards. It'd be awesome to get the first 2 km done in every direction of my home....

For that I'll propably have to get a private server running, perhaps invite some locals to get the quest going... Or just dabble with it for the next few years every time I feel like it.

I play Minecraft much like I play Transport Tycoon Deluxe(OpenTTD anyways). Once every now and then, when the planets allign, I get this urge and I'll play for weeks, eyes bright red from exhaustion and sleep deprivation, finishing the epic 20 blocks in diameter half-circle glass-bubblebath with pillars of lava flowing on four sides, overlooking a huge valley at the end of a wooden walkway that goes out from the 3rd layer of my castle, that is centered in the middle of a miniature Auswitz(I'm actually doing my impression of that place at the moment, got a little 3 person crematorium with fiery logs as floors and all, currently rigging the train system up).

Yeah, huge plans, but who has the time :D
