Mac elitism or snobbery??

Mac users aren't more elitist than anyone else. Windows users get pretty obnoxious too. I feel that it's just confirmation bias honestly. You only have one company which uses the Mac computer. Windows machines are everything else. Acer, Asus, Vaio, Samsung, Alienware, all of them use Windows. Douchebags stand out more when they are a part of a smaller group.
...and the religious right don't engage in hyperbole and misrepresentation any more than the left. The left vilify and follow party lines just as mindlessly as the right. That the Republicans appear to be so partisan is just confirmation bias...

...or maybe Mac users really are disproportionately douche bags. Did you see their reaction when Instagram was ported to Android? Can you cite anything remotely similar the other way?

For unknown reasons, Windows has its fanatics. It's usually gamers and people who need to write bespoke excel macros. Special mention: Luddites.

Easiest way to wind them up:
When they say something like "nothing works under Linux", point out one of the several billion forum posts about graphics drivers or missing .dlls. When they say something like "Macs are just glorified toys", point out that the reason given most often for not switching to another OS is... games.

Macs have fanatics because *NIX rocks, and it's the only visible alternative to Windows. Special mention: Luddites.

Easiest way to wind them up:
Mention that really massive portions of their OS is open source (CUPS/webkit/OpenGL/OpenCL... their kernel is BSD ffs), and the amount of money they spend is hilarious.

GNU/Linux has fanatics because they hate being left out. Which is ironic in a number of rib-tickling ways.

Easiest way to wind them up:
Point to Canonical's Bug #1.

I use Linux because my computer will do what I fucking tell it to do and nothing else. If it doesn't, I can rewrite it so it does, speak directly with the developers/maintainers to fix it, or swap out parts that piss me off. I use Ubuntu because I'm a Debian guy who can't be arsed to tweak as much as I once did.

I don't use Arch or Gentoo because I'm not a wanker.

I use Windows. But that's just because it boots up plenty quickly and it's a simple interface that I can run many things in, and file through all of my save data directories that I already accumulated over the years without having to reformat all of the partitions.
My ability to browse Facebook and play on Steam > anything else.

But I boot up VMWare and run Linux whenever I need to do my down-to-dirt scripting/networking/etc.

I'll be damned if I use my tweaked BackTrack distro to browse Facebook without it being so I can play "hack the box" with my friend in Alabama, anyways. That's like using a golden spoon to dig out of a garden.

I use Windows because otherwise my house would be dark on the inside and I'd pay a fortune in electricity bills.

Fanboyism in all its forms is dull. Just choose the system that fits your needs and let others do the same.
