A League Of Reason Campaign

Hello, LoR!

I'm bored, and I can't access my ordinary turn-based gaming site from work.
As of course is my honest shining of brilliance, I would like to extend an offer to the League Of Reason community - that of one of my many already-fine-tuned gaming campaigns which you may or may not have played before.

If I get enough takers, I will happily toss up more than one game in sequence - but I'm not going to make it easy for you.
Books can be found anywhere you want. World of Darkness books can be come by through your *cough* typical internet resources *cough*

The Options for today are:
(New) World Of Darkness -
The Headline
The story pivots around the strange happenings in a small town and subsequent disappearance that surrounds the arrival of a CNN reporter, known for her risky reporting style.

(Mystery / Suspense / Modern)

(Old) World of Darkness -
Lutansia
In the midst of World War II, your unit takes directions from oppressed locals on your mission to deliver mission-essential documents to Allied forces through the countryside. After coming across a town called Lutansia, and staying there for the night, you awake to find everyone missing, and the documents gone.
And you're not going anywhere without those documents.

(Horror / War / 1940s)

Dungeons and Dragons (3.5) -
Wars of Man
A countryside torn by hardened years of war, where no good is on any side. Peace through unity, but at what cost?
And under who should rule? The God-King? The Backstabber? The Iron-fisted Emperor?
A Long Storyline, but one filled with all the elements that would make your average DnD player jizz themself with joy.
Special Rules for Sorcerers (Automatic Familiar. Special Spell System) Starting Level: 2 [Cross-Classing allowed]
No class restrictions. No race restrictions. No allignment restrictions (there are douchebaggery restrictions. Killing off plot elements and other characters for killing's sake will be given a stern talking-to and a swift kick in the rear.)


If you're interested in any of these, post in the thread. If enough people show interest, I'll toss out a few characters.

I'd be interested in something Old World of Darkness but not really clear on how you intend to go about it. The description sounds perfectly Horror :D

It actually is quite the horror element - honestly, it's going to be the flamboyant and simplicity in your death if you die that's going to be the fillipant story-telling element here - along with a Shamalanyan twist in the story that will lead you gripping the edge of your seat.
We'd just use Konkret's Dice Roller with screen shots, unless Spork wants to drop a hammer and put a [roll]1d20[/roll] function in.

ST doesn't have to post dice rolls, of course.
Roll that bitch behind the screen if I need to. Besides, if I roll where you guys roll I can't give the Story a push-through or give the players the old DM-bump if they need it.

I'm a lenient ST/GM/DM though. And I enjoy telling the story as much as you guys should enjoy having it read to you, and being part of the experience.

Can't promise I'll have a bucket-load of time on my hand, but at least I'm knowledgeable enough about D&D and still regularly play - and occasionally GM - 3.5
WoD is a different level entirely. I GMed Vampire for about 4 years, I reckon, and played in it about just as long. Do prefer a horror setting when it comes to WoD, so Old for me as well.

One question about
I'll toss out a few characters.
Surely you mean your own/ NPCs? In any case, I don't like playing characters pre-made by someone else, but I don't think that was what you were suggesting.

In this WoD campaign you will be playing the part of humans. I have a single enigmatic gift for a single player, but the rest of you will automatically receive XP from firearms training, and some battle time to spread around.
You're going to need it, though, believe you and me.

I may be down for the dnd campaign. I dont play too much in the pen and paper realm, but I have all the version 3 or 3.5 books through a hand me down gifting and would probably catch on quickly.

Post-by-post on the Forums. It gives enough space for you all to be verbose about your actions, the same fo me to be verbose about the storyline and NPC interactions with players (as well as put in pretty pictures and background elements).
Also, it would put a decent timeframe for what you guys are doing, and allow me to respond to you each individually when you post in frames where the party is allowed to act seperately and independantly of one-another (ie. "You're in a town now." - in typical Tabletop, the following shitstorm of random filing through of Q&A, rolling to see how many people you can rip off, and all the rest would fill the room and divide the DM/ST/GM's attention, or force them to ignore the actions of individual party members for the sake of storyline. You now have that cool ability to do your own thing with individual attention that your character craves during those usually hectic moments without being shunned or shouted over by someone wanting to shank a local guardsman and start a bar fight in the name of CHAOS).
Plus, you know, time frames can be worked with between individuals' posts and the DM/ST/GM's responses, and works with the fact that we're each in a fuck-all different locations and time zones.

I have a feeling that it may become quite clunky in some places, and I'm also pondering if group development and camaraderie might suffer from a lack of direct interaction.

What do you think to the idea of augmenting some of the key sequences with IRC sessions?
Afterwards we could post the chat logs in the thread as a record of what happened.

Not so much - but if there's actions that need to be discussed they can take place in the IRC or through PM.
However, if there's discussion between characters quietly I'd like to be notified of the exchange. I'm not going to advertise any whisperings you have amongst one-another, and it's more of a matter of me being able to judge if anything can be spotted by other characters trying to listen in, or to make sure no power-gaming is going on (though I doubt it will be - if someone goes off and does their own thing, I can exchange with them via PM as well).

The Post-by-Post system isn't so bad, seeing as it works on the other forums I go to (DnDOnlineGames). It seemed clunky to me at first ("HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO INTERRUPT PEOPLE IN A POST-BY-POST FORMAT?!") but I quickly learned to enjoy it - like I learned to enjoy post-by-post debating.

Plus, I can't IRC at my work. Atop that, IRC presents scheduling issues - as we're all in different parts of the 3rd Rock.

Party development shouldn't suffer at all, considering the only person you'd be waiting to post for in situations where RP developments come around is simply the next player - and I'm not going to herd the players out of town on a whim after a certain time limit (unless it's getting ridiculous).
Also, there will be no Deus ex Machina for any of the storyline elements - good for me, bad for you. No NPC is going to swoop in and end the story for you and (with a few exceptions) death is death is death. You'll be deady dead, which is quite a way of putting it in most cases.
