how can you claim western civilization as a testament to christian culture when you are excluding the largest population of christians on earth?
simply I do not claim anything!

Aaaand from this we conclude that you don't even understand what your own position is.

You are very much claiming things.

enjoy how Romania is somehow implicitly included in this "Christian Cultureâ„¢," and it's ethereal achievements. As though, simply by also being Christian, they somehow get Credit for what Western Europe did.

What are Romania's cultural achievements exactly? Aside from not being completely dominated by Russians and Turks? Because it seems to me that, to paraphrase a notable Brit, there is more culture in one small, private English library than in the entire Eastern Bloc.

A cultural achievements?hhh what would you say on the fact that you do not pray to Allah 5 times / day

Therefore! The west had the silence, to build libraries and universities, because someone defended there ass, century after century, military campaign, after military campaign by which the Ottomans were stopped by the Romanian principalities!

Now that you're an atheist
I will not be shocked that you have not heard of Emil Cioran, Constantin Brancusi, Mircea Eliade, George Enescu,

Independent Vision
Well... Vlad Ţepeş ruled over an area that is a part of current Romania. So... I guess the inspiration for Dracula and hence most of todays vampire stories is Romanias cultural contribution via history? *shrugs*[That's... about... it...

Valurile Dunarii?ion Ivanovici, no? you do not disappoint me! you remain an atheist

Waves of the Danube

PS.
Glory to God that I'm not an atheist!

I don't see it...

I see either a poe or someone who desperately needs an introduction to philosophy, science, math, biology, geology, and critical thinking.

What is Atheism?

The word Atheism stems from the word Atheos.

(A-Theos)
Prefix- "A" describing lack of whatever it is attached to.
and "Theos" means deity.

Atheism literaly means to lack a Deity.

Lacking a belief in deities does not equate with lacking a culture.
People who lack deities are equaly capable of and have a rich history
in Literature, Music and fine art and cultural traditions.
Not all cultural traditions are about religion.

the structure and practice of Contemporary science as it stands now
finds its early routes in Pre-christian greek culture. so One might actualy say science Indeed IS
a cultural phenomina.
The same can also be said of Democracy.
for anyone claiming Atheism leads to communism. "i`m looking at you VyckRo"
Democracy finds no grounding in Theism and is consequently a Atheistic concept as Religion and deities
are unimportant and have no place in this type of polical model. "it is a secular system"
Communism and Democracy in this respect both exist IRRESPECTIVE of any religion or deities what so ever.

This is in stark contrast to theocracy which mandates the Rules of a given religion be treated as the Law of the land which
may or may not be accompanied by all of the ugly captial punishment and violence associated with said Religions scriptures.

He's not a poe, he genuinely thinks this thread is putting the shitters up the pompous atheists. Embarrassing in the long run for him (if and when he realises how retarded his arguments are), but hilariously entertaining for everyone else.

Read though his prior conversations where his arse is reddened rather distinctly by theyounghistorian77.

Vlad tepes, my favorite historical figure is a christian. He was taught how to torture by his muslim captors and he applied that knowledge to successfully rule his kingdom. Imagine, for any crime, big or small, death penalty.

This must be the enlightenment VyckRo was talking about.

I'll grant you that Romania fought valiantly and, despite my love of all things Ottoman, I can respect that - despite also the occasional use of disgusting, despicable, and inhuman tactics. A fine tradition of resistance is even a cultural tradition of a sort (as I alluded to above), but it has in no way contributed to the rest of the world. You're kidding yourself if you think the rest of Europe would have just crumbled if you had gone away. The Ottomans we're broken at the gates of Wien not Bucharest; their navies held in check by Spanish and Italian armadas not some mythical Romanian Black Sea force.

Moreover the Danube, the Transylvanian Alps, and the Carpathian Mountains form a natural barrier to northern expansion. No empire in the history of history has succeeded in conquering that area from the south, even before your people arrived. Simply put, the Ottoman Empire was at its logical and logistical maximum before it crossed into your territory; any token resistance, from any people, could have confounded them.

The real danger of Ottoman expansion into Europe was West along the coast, and by sea. Southern Italy was vulnerable after 1453, and it appeared for a while as though an Ottoman invasion was imminent (they even landed troops there once, and encountered no resistance.) Spanish and Italian naval power rendered this approach increasingly impractical. Meanwhile the Western land approach through Serbia and Croatia bypasses Romania altogether.

So you did not defend Europe, at best you defended the Ukraine from threat of invasion and prevented the Ottomans from having a firm hold on Crimea; which is basically to say that you defended Russia. And, quite honestly, I'm not sure if Russia wouldn't be better off Muslim - it's hard to imagine how it could make things worse, in any case.

By the way, the ultimate defeat of the Ottomans is due to hyperinflation from Spanish Imperialism, the establishment by several Western European countries of new trade routs (bypassing the Turkish stranglehold on trade in the Levant), and ultimately British economic and military power. You would be hard pressed to say that the Ottomans were ever a significant threat to any of these.
Now that you're an atheist
Did I say I was? Probably not safe to assume these things.
I will not be shocked that you have not heard of Emil Cioran
From Romania, but clearly drawing upon the German Philosophical tradition. I have heard of him, but still had to look up the name as he's just not particularly interesting or noteworthy.
Constantin Brancusi
I'll admit I had to look this guy up. Once again, it seems that - although Romanian born - this man is taking part in a German/French tradition.
Mircea Eliade
Well this one at least you can probably say is drawing from Romanian Culture. Unfortunately that makes his Fascism all the more amusing. I suppose this is what you'd expect from the cultural tradition of Vlad III.
George Enescu
Ooh, a composer who draws inspiration from Romanian Folk music. This is a genuinely positive influence that Romania has had on the rest of civilization, one that we would be poorer without. Not much poorer, but still. Well done, Romania has risen slightly higher in my estimation... now if I could just forget all that stuff about savage barbarism.

I still maintain your greatest cultural contribution to date is ZOMGitsCriss.

In fairness to the Ottomans. They never taught him this. Even the Turks were shocked by his merciless application of force upon his own citizenry.

If we equate culture whit science or civilization we will get to say funny things as India and Africa have no culture, or George Bush an Barack Obama are some very cultured people.

Emphasis mine.

 Wow!

That statement alone says far more then I could about how you see the world around you. Nice to see that you are so ethnocentric that you are unable to appreciate the scientific achievements and civilizations of Africa and India. Alternatively, perhaps you are just ignorant of the civilizations and scientific achievements of those places? Either way, that is not excusable, and it reflects poorly on your take of history and culture.
