I've been to Birmingham, and there was nothing there that made me want to return. ;)

Just too built up for my tastes really. I just don't like cities, never have. I hate London for example. :D

Oh man, how can you hate the countryside? Have you never been fell-walking in the Lake District? Gives you a real feeling of being alive when you reach the various summits (Blencathra being one my favourite mountains in the region). I always take the route along Sharp Edge (and it is literally a sharp edge! People fall and die there quite often) And I always light a celebratory ciggie when I reach the summit. :)

There is no god, but there is Blencathra! :D

I can relate to hating big cities. Birmingham and London really get on my nerves, especially on a weekend. Luckily Coventry is only small and insignificant. I can deal with that.

What about The Capital of the North: MADCHESTER!!!!... *Cough* Manchester?

I mean, being sixteen I don't think I could get actually go to any upcoming ones...
... But Manchester is always an option or am I the only Northerner? xD

By the time anything gets agreed you probably will be old enough  . There's also always the fake ID option.

As rational thinkers, we need to try to have an unbiased look at the evidence to determine the best place. If you take a map of the UK and view it as a uniform 2d shape, you'll find that the centre of gravity is around Blackburn. Clearly, this is a little unfair, as you'd need to take population density into account, and that's weighted towards the southeast. I've done some careful calculations, trying to balance distance and population, and naturally arrived at a location a bit to the southeast of Blackburn - namely Manchester. The fact that I live there is a mere coincidence, the conclusion is purely from a cold analysis of the data. Honest.

Hmmm, I don't think you've given enough weighting in your calculation to population density. I personally believe that a better scenario can be arrived at if we use a 3D model of the country. In doing this it incorporates the fact that, due to post glacial rebound, the north of the country is gradually shifting upwards making it more of an effort to move North. If we also take into account a more realistic weighting of population then we shift further south to, um, Birmingham...........................................crap ;) .

I've actually just come back from 5 weeks in the North (Lake District) and had to drive past Manchester yesterday to get home, I may have been more receptive to it but it was not a pleasant experience.

Meh, to be honest I'd be fine with London. Although I manage to get lost with worrying regularity and the ticket machines for the underground hate me.
