Also: no internet, and computers were pretty crappy too. And smartphones nowhere near in sight.
Call me crazy but I think that is partially why people are less happy is because of all the things associated with smart phones or communications technology in general.

You don't read a lot of 9gag comments for example, do you? There are plenty of Europeans on there, and yet the comments always gleefully joke about trans people killing themselves, and calling them mentally ill. And homophobia: remember Russia?
They ARE mentally ill. the normal function of human society relies on a binary sex nature in order to be in working order. For the record though I think you are supposed to tolerate other people. People should put up with them just as they put up with me.

"...“gender dysphoria,” which refers to psychological distress that results from an incongruence between one’s sex assigned at birth and one’s gender identity."

Psychological
"of, affecting, or arising in the mind; related to the mental and emotional state of a person.
"the victim had sustained physical and psychological damage""

"Mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in emotion, thinking or behavior (or a combination of these). Mental illnesses are associated with distress and/or problems functioning in social, work or family activities. Mental illness is common."
Some more examples:

Just the tone and pitch of this person is annoying to me. However, I don't go and plan some type of atrocity.
(Interesting you didn't mention the USA. Guess you agree they still have a long way to go?)
I guess this relates to me :D

Not that I was there, but the 60's and 70's sound like fun, as confirmed by practically everyone who was there that I've ever talked to about this. I grew up in the 80's and 90's so to answer from a period I have experienced, I'd vote for the 80's.

However, I'm a pretty nostalgic person anyway, I've always had quite unique jobs and most of the time worked with the 'old boys' - they tell many an interesting tale from periods before my time, especially from the workplace. Most of them (in my experience) would affirm life was harder in many ways back in, say, the 50s - but also better in many ways.

Well let's not forget that most people's memories are tinted by nostalgia. They remember the decades past from the point of view of a carefree child, knowing little of the struggles their parents had in the same period. So take it with a grain of salt if someone tells you a period was great.

arg-fallbackName="*SD*"/>
Yeah, I mean I can take the carefree child part out of it by skipping the 80's and going to the 90's instead and still make the same argument as an adult. Also, whilst I wasn't clear about this in my previous post, the 'old boys' recollections I was referring to weren't from when they were carefree children either.

Same here. I thought the eighties were the coolest from what I actually experienced. But I always wished I could have experienced the 60's and 70's.

They ARE mentally ill.
I disagree. They are probably mostly just people doing what they want to do. Just like everyone else.

However I do believe humility is probably the one trait a human can have which can most benefit the entire world. I think it is arrogant and destructive for us to demand that society affirms our particular sexual behaviors.

We are more bad than good. I think to way to a better society involves us being vulnerable and declaring the burden of our imperfections to each other. Pride is the last thing the world needs right now.

By literal definitions cited they are mentally ill.

Citation needed.
What percentage of society are made up of gays and the like? 5.6% of society is made up of such persons. By definition they are not typical of human society and thus not normal. High percentage of suicidality among such a community is not in working order. It doesn't sound like killing yourself more commonly than everyone else that are 94.4% of the remainder is the answer or an argument to say society doesn't rely on binary system in order to be in working order. How do you reproduce if everyone was homosexual? If you can't reproduce how does society continue?

Maybe the high suicide rate is partially due to people such as yourself who refuse to accept the the people as normal and that they are not part of or should not be part of our society. Laws and people that discriminate against them have a very negative impact on them, leading to higher suicide rates, mental and physical health issues. Our society is a much better place for everyone when it is more inclusive and accepting of differences.

You seem to have a very narrow view of what a normal society should like. I get the perception that for you a "normal" society would not include any LGBTQ people, immigrants, people of colour, or anyone else that didn't look or have the same views and beliefs as you.

No issue with this conversation taking place, so please do continue, however - this is a crap argument. Homosexual people can still reproduce, there are several options available such as AI, or they can have 'traditional' sex with the (insert male or female as necessary) even if it isn't their preference to do so.

If AI were not an option, a homosexual male, for example, still has the option and capability of having aforementioned 'traditional' sex with a female in order to reproduce.

Not to mention that, as you correctly observe, most people aren't homosexual so reproduction isn't an issue in the first place. But should everyone suddenly become gay overnight, for some unknown reason, the above options still stand so I don't think we need to do much panicking about the human species dying out because of rampant homosexuality just yet :)

So, in other words, just your opinion.

I doubt that. The western world generally treats homosexuals like they are ambassadors of foreign countries. I think the reason they kill themselves is because they are given a false sense of self-worth.

That makes no sense what so ever. So you're saying that members of the LBGTQ community being treated like normal people is a mistake? I don't see how treating them like everyone else is treating them like high level ambassadors. Do you agree that all members of society should have the same rights and privileges, unless they break a law?

It seems to me your also saying the members of the LBGTQ community shouldn't expect to have same sense of self-worth as anyone you consider normal.

No. I am saying that in western society, homosexuals are treated like high level ambassadors. Just because of their sexual behavior. They have an elite status.

Excuse my vulgar language but we have parades for men because they like to suck dicks and fuck each other in ass. They are given special representation in virtually every aspect of social policy. They demand political representation and they get that in spades.

If I went around work, telling everyone that I like to hang upsidedown while jerking off and being strangled, I would probably be fired by the end of the day.

The LGTBQ community does not have an elite status and the status they currently have in society has been hard fought for. A few decades ago people were thrown in jail or worse for even being accused of being LBGTQ. What's so bad about them having political representation? I make the same argument about Christians having special representation in social policy, especially in the west.

Christian churches don't have to pay taxes. Some Christians insist that only a man and woman should be allowed to get married. Some Christians insist everyone should have to pray in school to a Christian god. Some Christians insist tax dollars should be spent only on health care they see fit to support. And on it goes.

If your employer fired you because of your sexual preferences that would be no different than a gay person getting fired for their sexual preferences. It's just wrong. As Pierre Trudeau once said "there's no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation", adding that "what's done in private between adults doesn't concern the Criminal Code". And the same goes for your place of employment.

By literal definition normal means what is to be expected, typical, standard, usual. 94.4% is the standard not the remainder.

Also there are entire countries made up of so called people of color. In those countries they are the majority. Basically they are the norm not the literal opposite of them.
