To everyone that thinks I was unjustified in posting this thread, please see Aught3's first post. It was his "joke" that acted as the catalyst for my reaction. Although he didn't apologize, he did reverse his decision which partially explains why I'm still here. The other reason is because I don't think I've communicated my point well enough. borro has asked if my only complaint centers around thread locking. While I admit that there is a lack of diligence involved in locking threads fairly, it's not my only reason. I'll try to make it really clear so that everyone understands what I'm talking about.
This community has been promoted to me as an organization without representation. Earlier I posted a prime example of AW telling a new member "League of Reason is a community and does not have any strict policy - nor is it represented by any individual or group." Based on the way these forums are run, this is a lie - False advertising... Deceptive marketing!! And while it may only be a white lie or rather obvious exaggeration, its still disingenuous. As someone who has repeatedly made it clear that I have a problem with that type of behaviour in my industry, nobody should be surprised that it can irritate me in real world situations... Even in organizations that I happen to respect. If i have to choose between loyalty to this community and overlooking something that conflicts with my ethics, I'm sorry, but I'm going to compromise my loyalty every single time.
The thread that Augth3 locked as a joke was clearly discussing this very subject. It was inspired by a suggestion that went unanswered and was locked after a bump. In my opinion, if this community is supposedly unrepresented, the people with administrative powers should be obligated to provide the reasons for any decisions that affect the community. Locking a thread after multiple requests for some rational (which came in the form of bumps) is rather evasive and authoritarian for my tastes. I'd still like a better explanation why the forum needs a "News" forum, but nobody running the place bothered to engage the subject. And now that its locked, they are essentially saying there's no need for debate. I repeat, it's rather evasive and authoritarian for my tastes - Especially considering how this community is being promoted!
I don't know how many times I can repeat myself so if people are still confused, I don't know what else to say. LoR needs to pick between promoting itself as a decentralized organization or make a significant effort towards achieving that ideal. It doesn't seem that difficult to understand...

I can say I don't really follow the whole thread locking issue here. The whole time I've been on this forum, I've probably seen less than 20 threads get locked, with the majority of them being spam or closed debates. Hell, I've seen all out flame wars and bitch fests go on without being locked, so I really don't understand your complaint.

AW isn't moot. This isn't 4chan. AW appears to have created this board, is administrator, and has chosen a few moderators who maintain things. He doesn't jump out like "Guys it's me! Your lovable dictator!" The ModSquad doesn't run around demanding respect. In every single encounter I've had with anyone with a different colored name(yes that's a racist joke) they've been like anyone else. The only time they should really step in as mods is to remove and prevent spam, or block truly unruly and abusive users.

That said, they don't represent us. We don't represent them. And they do let a lot go - see that guy trying to get us to spam bomb some other forum, they didn't lock that though that would have been the first thing I did when I read that if I were a mod. That's the difference - they don't have strict policies, but everyone should act reasonably.
I agree that they should have explained in cases where a thread was locked. However, I don't think it's worth something like this - I would PM and demand(yes, I would demand, cause I think I'm entitled to reasonable explanations in such cases) an explanation. The fact that they didn't doesn't make them despicable evil people, it just means they neglected to give a good reason.
So here is my view on the reason those threads were locked. The one you were bumping was simply spam at that point. The one you were in a shouting match in, well, that could have been in PMs and probably would have been better that way.
Now there's one other thing, that I find fascinating. In another thread you had suggested that the site be used as a marketing tool - at which point the very representation you claim to abhor would be necessitated. It would also require a much stricter policy and more moderators to enforce it, many of whom would probably not flinch away from squelching threads they didn't agree with. Threads like Timothy's I AM CHRIST AGAIN wouldn't be possible because some mod would just cock block him out the gate. Further, rather than being an open forum as it is now, we would all effectively be represented by the show. While I'm happy to a part of the forum that has people who run the show, I would not be happy to be a part of the show's forum. Get the distinction?
That particular thread was locked because it's not in line with the stated course of the forum, I believe, and because I suspect Andromeda's Wake doesn't want to tarnish his name by using it for profit the way asshats like Lee Doran do. Stay classy AW.
So JustBollo......erm.....Buisness17 has decided to have a temper tanrum and throw all of his toys out of the cot, followed by the bedding AND the matress. Not very mature. I'm going to echo what many other people have said here, i've been a member of a wide range of forums, some long term some i joined up to just for a particular discussion, we've got it pretty sweet here. As has been said we can have a good rage at each other if a thread decends that way and we don't go too insanely ott in it and we have nice wiggle room for all sorts of silly to be entertainined. The mods are great people with fantastic sences of humour (except gnug, he's just a smally pseudo-dane) and theres a great atmosphere on the boards. What are you bitching about? Boohoo you had a thread locked, man up and grow a pair. They put this site together and they fund it, as has been said this is their house with their rules. Chin up and stop being a whingy shit. Seriously, your complaining more about this than my 1 year old neice does about things, and she is literally still a baby.

The hole time i read the thread i couldn't help but wonder how far you wanted them to bend to make you happy, as i said we've got it good here. It also occured to me that this might be partly down to the fact there's an ingrained need to do things the proper way in the british that might be working with Sporkypants and AW as they just got on and dealt with things, this would loosely cover Aught3 as whilst he's not british his culture has a similar MO to ours. Leaving the loud mouth gobby yank whinging as he lacks the ability to comprehend that someone has simply just gone and got the job done they needed to so that we could all get on with things.
