To be honest I'm not sure what to make of this. On the one hand, it seems I've underestimated her. She has enough rudimentary political savvy to recognize that her abortive bid for the Vice Presidency damaged, perhaps permanently, her image in the eyes of the greater American public, not counting the nut-jobs in Alaska. The other possibility of course, is that a scandal is about to break and she wants to be out of the office before the crap hits the fan.
The question is, what happens now? Will she simply fade gracefully away, perhaps with a few speaking gigs, ala Nixon, or is this merely meant to take her out of the public consciousness until 2012 when she can launch a bid for the White House as the Conservative wing-nuts want her to do. In any case on the heels two sex scandals in the Republican Party, one of which was also a governor, as well as a state supreme court giving the Democrats a super-majority in the Senate, things are not looking good for the right politically in the near future.
