To be honest I'm not sure what to make of this. On the one hand, it seems I've underestimated her. She has enough rudimentary political savvy to recognize that her abortive bid for the Vice Presidency damaged, perhaps permanently, her image in the eyes of the greater American public, not counting the nut-jobs in Alaska. The other possibility of course, is that a scandal is about to break and she wants to be out of the office before the crap hits the fan.

The question is, what happens now? Will she simply fade gracefully away, perhaps with a few speaking gigs, ala Nixon, or is this merely meant to take her out of the public consciousness until 2012 when she can launch a bid for the White House as the Conservative wing-nuts want her to do. In any case on the heels two sex scandals in the Republican Party, one of which was also a governor, as well as a state supreme court giving the Democrats a super-majority in the Senate, things are not looking good for the right politically in the near future.

A few guesses:
  • Batshit crazy, and trying to get ahead of ethics investigations #16-#20
  • Batshit crazy, and thinking that if 20 months as Governor qualified her for VP, then 30 months qualifies her for President
  • Batshit crazy, narcissistic, and hates podunk Alaska so much that she can't be bothered to stay there one more day
  • Batshit crazy, hasn't been doing her job in months, and wasn't planning on doing her job again
  • Batshit crazy, and tired of Michael Jackson stealing her spotlight
  • Batshit crazy, and offered a job on Fox "News"
  • Batshit crazy, offered a job on Fox "News", and plans on using the position to run for President the way Fred Thompson tried to do last year
  • Batshit crazy, and knocked up again
  • Batshit crazy, and Bristol is knocked up again
  • Batshit crazy, and tired of Governor's position interfering with aerial moose hunting
  • Batshit crazy... and just fucking batshit crazy!

YOU BETCHA!

If the republicans do pick her for their nominee for President in the next election cycle I'd have to go pat every single last one of them on the back. After all if they pick her she'll lose and lose hard.

She's an idiot, a religious nut job and probably as dumb as Bush was, however she lacks the money and daddy power Bush had let alone the handlers.

At least Bush by all accounts was a likable fellow Palin just makes me want to punch kittens in rage.

Would the Republicans really let her be their presidential candidate? :|

At this point, their choices are "batshit crazy narcissist hockey mom," "90 year old guys," and "middle-aged guys cheating on their wives." And half of the 90 year olds are on their second and third wives, and have long histories of cheating on them.

Sarah Palin is nuts, dumb as shit, thin-skinned, lazy, self-involved... she's a female George W. Bush! And she's pretty close to the best they have, since the other choices are so bad. What's worse for Republicans (and for Democrats, truthfully) is that over time their choices don't look to get any better. The Republicans stand a good chance of being a regional party for the next decade.

Ah... good ol' Sarah Palin, one of the perks of being Australian where I can sit back and say 'she's your problem bitches!' :)

If you want an easy spoon-fed reply, our PM, Kevin Rudd's a fucking joke, I honestly can't decide if I'd rather him or Bush to be in charge, though I take some satisfaction in the fact he doesn't have 'the button' (no nukes for us :( )

I think IJoe covered most of the bases, though I like her official reason, something to the effect of 'Her deputy would do a better job', what a stupid bitch, does she think for a second anyone buy's that's the real reason? If she had doubt's she was competant for governing Alaska AND CARED, why the hell did she run for VP?

Well, I'll give her my best comments possible...

She's not Rush Limbaugh. :D

I think she'll try to run, I don't know if the republicans will give her the nomination, but if they do, she'll loose.

There is Schwarzenegger, but he wasn't born in America, so no, plus he's pretty moderate so the republican party nowadays wouldn't go for him.

I like Meghan McCain, but she's liberal on social issues (that's why I like her), so the republicans won't go for her.

Plus there might be a few middle aged men who aren't cheating on their wives.... not that that would get them elected.

If she is somehow elected into any higher powered office she will make sure to be everyone's problem.

I'm not cheating on my wife, does that make me eligible for the Republican nomination?

Ahnold and Meghan aren't eligible for the presidency. Of the middle aged men who aren't cheating on their wives, few of them are Republicans, and even fewer are nationally-known Republicans. ;)

To be completely honest, I think she's even less intelligent than Bush :\. I might be wrong as I can't convince myself that that's even possible, but every time I've heard her speak I get the impression that my brain cells are dying faster than with Doubleyuh.

If she just disappears quietly into the Alaskan snow fields somewhere that would be the very best possible outcome for this planet, she should have NO influence what-so-ever on any major political decisions that may affect the world. She is worse than Bush, at least Bush had advisors that he listened to and repeated their rhetoric (not too well but better than Palin could).

I'd love to see her being hunted in the snow mountains by someone in a chopper! LMAO!

Well it looks like she really does intend to run for the presidency in 2012 according to some hints she put on her facebook page. Story here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090705/ap_on_re_us/us_palin_resigning

I can't stand the woman. But more than that, I'm sort of scared that she might convince enough idiots to get her into office. And her supporters are scary scary fanatics.

It's been interesting today to watch the Republican pundits try to wrap their heads around this one on Faux News. Essentially Karl Rove can't figure it out either. She's going to have to face her fellow Republicans in a primary, and they're going to take her apart on this issue in debates. There's simply no way I can think she can explain this so that it sounds sensible, and good for Alaska, and still make her a viable candidate for future office.

I can really only see a few options coming out of this:
1. She's going to create a right-wing religious PAC, probably called Mavericks for America or something annoying like that.

2. She's going to disappear from public life because she's so thin-skinned that she can't take the abuse of being a public figure on the national stage.

3. She's going to ghost-write a book about how those evil, godless, media-types ruined her life and go on a speaking tour, becomming a ditzy version of Anne Coulter.

4. She's so completely clueless about politics that she's going to run for president anyway, driving a schismatic wedge between the Republican Party between the fundie nuts and the more sane blue-blood Republicans, thus guaranteeing the Democrats another 4 years in office.

Why not Meghan?
EDIT: Never mind, she's too young.

Of the middle aged men who aren't cheating on their wives, few of them are Republicans
That's pretty unfair.

Few of them are republican politicians.

For those in the (ANZic) region familiar with this person I just had a chilling thought.

Does Sarah Palin remind you of Pauline Hanson?

I think this is kinda interesting:

I know of Pauline Hanson WolfAU and I think she made some very valid points (mainly about the amount of extra welfare Aboriginals receive compared to non-Aboriginals which is a pretty racist government policy if you ask me and one that really pisses me off as I'm a student trying to better my life and society that is only able to claim at most $50/week to live off!! whereas Aboriginals get something in the vicinity of $500/week for drinking booze, stealing, asking strangers for money, taking drugs and abusing passer-by's!!!!). I could on and on by I won't as it won't change anything here.

She also raised a valid point about problems occurring with multiculturalism, which do exist even though most people try avoid it and some people try to ignore it, but she ended up going over the top with these issues and lacked any real political knowledge about other issues and chose poorly in her advisors which, combined, killed her career.

"extra welfare Aboriginals receive compared to non-Aboriginals which is a pretty racist government policy if you ask me..."
Agreed, but the issue is systematic change (ie trying to prevent aboriginal communities becoming slums). I also think its stupid how most scholarships have requirements like being a woman or a minority group. I have no problem with assistance but I think it should be condititonal assistance, what Australia has been doing is the standard 'throw money at the problem' approach. I also acknowledge there are problems with multiculturalism.

However, Pauline Hanson IS A BITCH, if you've listened to some of her comments, particularly those off the record, she is a fickle, immoral, power-hungry bitch, who cannot be trusted with power and if she was PM tomorrow I'd probably move oversea's.

The above are the paralleles I see to Palin.

arg-fallbackName="ladiesman391"/>
Yep Pauline Hanson does not belong in the political arena, Palin even more so as she can inflict more damage with her stupidity than what Hanson ever could.
