Reviving the show.

And what, dear Gnug, should we put into that video? I'd love to apply as either member or host.

I'm the handsome guy starting at 00:36

You know you want me! ;)

I'm thinking probably the best way to decide on hosts would be in a Skype conversation, rather than video auditions. So we can get a good feel for peoples' personalities.

all i can say is that blogTv is the "new" hot way to make a podcast.

as for ideas for a pod cast.
how about taking very old topics and have them as a topic (while not reading the old topic and comments).

I'll be on the judging panel. Like X Factor but with relevance.

Well, when I said video, I didn't really mean a screening audition. I was thinking people could just record their voice, maybe do some kind of fictional show. They could also just record some Skype convo they have with someone where they act as host.

Just to get a feel for people. :)

I like your voice at least, but oh dear me, you (and Aron) made the classical error of crowd control to ask if everyone could hear you.

It's much better to ask if anyone can NOT hear you.

;)

Considering the low numbers of people actually here, I was just thinking that we probably don't have so many options anyway, and considering the effort required to make a video over joining a simple Skype call, it might be easier for all to just have a Skype conference call with all people interested in reviving the show. Maybe sometime either this weekend or next, perhaps.

The podcast could very well be broadcast on BlogTV. Possibly ahead of release on other formats like iTunes, YouTube etc (?)

Or were you thinking of actually recording it live? I think the main issue there is technical difficulties and it allows less room for mistakes and sidetracking.

On another couple of notes...

We should probably try and move this on a bit, come down with more concrete ideas. I (or another mod?) could perhaps create a stickied thread in the General Discussion area. And I'm really thinking (sick of hearing it though you might be) that a Skype call is in order at some point involving all those interested in making this a reality.

Also, I would probably rather like to make an appearance on some shows, but I'm not so sure I would be all that good as a host.

Awesome. I'm rather buy this weekend, but if we can make an afternoon (Europe time) call I'll be available. I'll PM my Skype to whoever is setting it up.

Butting in here, and I may have forgotten some things that were already said so forgive me if I repeat what has been said or has been discarded, but:

Is it an idea to have a core set of presenters/ hosts, and having 1 or 2 (or more?) people with some "expertise" in to deal with a specific subject?
I could very easily conceive a LoR program about history with younghistorian as special guest and I wouldn't be averse to joining in on a program when it's about language (English, or the origins of language in general) etc. While what's said would still count as the personal view (when not dealing in cold facts :p ) of the speaker, it would give it a quasi-professional air imo.

I imagine that's probably a likely scenario. I don't see a reason to set the selection of hosts in stone, but it's reasonable to assume that that it would end up that way.
One thing to note is that it perhaps wouldn't be (at least, I and others rather think it shouldn't be) a sort of formal thing. Just relaxed chatting, with some kind of focus or theme for the show but allowing the conversation to go where it will, within reason. Then maybe every few minutes the host might move it along a bit, perhaps.

Okay, a summary so far, as best I can make out (possibly inadvertently subject to my own biases):

-The format should probably be a podcast, published on iTunes, Youtube, Miro and perhaps others.

-The atmosphere should not be as formal/rigid as the ones currently available. This helps gear the focus more towards being genuinely entertaining to listen to, rather than merely interesting on an intellectual level.

-Call-ins are a no. They serve little purpose more than being gimmicks.

-Having some kind of "Show Notes" available online for listeners to read in order to look up items referenced in the show might be a good idea.

-There should probably be a host present in order to keep things at least fairly on-topic and move things along smoothly.

-At least one "test show" or "dress rehearsal" would probably be a good idea before we publish a first show.

-There should be a Skype call either this weekend or next involving as many people as possible who want to see this become a reality. (I'm thinking next weekend would be best, considering the short notice of one in the next few days... peoples' IRL schedules and all.)

I'd push the show G+, but I've got like 2 people who occasionally bother to read anything I post. Guess I should start actively adding people.

Anyway, maybe there could be an actual page made for it on G+?
