And sometimes that's what it boils down to. Even if you may make an argument that religion is not all bad, the question is "is it necessary"? The advancements we made as a species were never because of religion. Hell, many times they were in direct violation of religion.
Many believers like to point out that early scientists were believers... but if they had been content with their religious answers, they would have never looked beyond them.
Now, especially, we have no more use for religion. Even if you argued it was useful in the past, it is now a completely unnecessary thing. Being that it's unnecessary, this amplifies any bad it causes.
