Religion isn't Bad -

arg-fallbackName="Yfelsung"/>
I've changed my opinion on the matter.

Anyone can believe in whatever stupid magical shit they want. Just don't fucking talk to me about it, don't talk to me in general, don't make eye contact and maintain a 15 foot distance from me at all times.

You can believe Jesus was a vampiric rapist from Pluto for all I care, I just don't want to associate with you in anyway, even on a professional level.

How childish of you. Too bad you've got me on "ignore" so you can't see me call your blubbering out for what it is -
whining and crying, and when people disagree with you, you go on the offensive and ignore them.

------------------------------

Anyhow, I'm sure slavery would have existed regardless of religion - the barbaric idea of doing nothing while someone else does everything is an ideal of laziness, not of Faith. Some people used Faith as a reason to justify (and even claim it was their God's will) to own slaves, but it does not change the fact that everyone and their mothers thought it fashionable to have a slave leading their horse, or thought it useful to have a slave teaching their children specific studies.

I'm not condoning Slavery. I'm just saying that you can blame Religion for slavery about as much as you can blame an atheist - laziness is a universal concept.

Actually, I took you off ignore. And how am I crying, I'm now agreeing with you. Religion isn't bad, it's fantastic. People running around believing in magic, it's like fucking Miracle on whatever street every bloody day. I mean, why live in a world of fact and evidence when you can live in a world of magic and fairy dust? Why should I limit myself to not just making shit up when you people all seem to have an absolutely wonderful time making shit up as you go along?

I didn't ignore you because you disagreed with me, lots of people disagree with me, hell MOST people do and I only had 4 people on my ignore list who I ignored because they could not separate personal insults from attacking my position.

And actually, you're right, I shouldn't ignore the magic people, I should embrace their magical nature. You've changed my world view, now instead of avoiding religious people I'm going to engage them in conversations about their magical stuff.

Tell me about your unicorns Hytegia. I want to know all about your magical witchy leprechauns and how you fly around on the backs of manticores on Samhain.

At least faeries have manners.
I find it terribly sad that you have effectively shut yourself off from a good portion of the world. I bet you're so naive that you think that everyone in the world that acts normal is an atheist, but only the few select loonies on the corner are Religious. You won't accept that the cashier that works at your convenience store is a Christian. That man who lent you a buck is a Catholic. The woman who opened the door for you is a Wiccan.

No no no. Those ordinary people HAVE to be atheists. They're not crazy enough to be religious.

Hey, I said I want to learn about your magic. Now you're being rude. I want to learn about what level of witch you are. How many D6 damage do your fireballs do? When you're in the feild, does your flak vest provide a 10% or 20% spell failure chance when using spells with a somatic component?

Speak to me of your magic. Tell me of your fairies. Tell me where I can find my own personal Manticore mount.

We have a thread for that. Post your questions there.
Keep this topic on topic and either contribute, or go whine about how life doesn't matter to your diary.

You misunderstand, your life doesn't matter, mine does to an infinite degree.

And you want to prove religion isn't bad, I would think your ability to cast spells would be beneficial to humanity, as you are an admitted witch, so wouldn't the explanation of your magical powers and their benefit to mankind be an aspect of why religion isn't bad?

Think about it, if you could teach others your abilities we wouldn't need things like... uh... welding torches.

Deck the halls with gasoline-
Trolololollll - lololo lolll
Strike a match and watch it gleam-
Trololololll - lololo lolll
Watch my post burn down to ashes-
Trololol ololol lololollll
It's so fun to be a dumbass-
Trololololll lololl lollll lolll

(The key words in this rhyme are "Troll" and "Lol")

So you're a Wiccan who doesn't believe in magic?

Odd.

I do.
Tell me how it is detrimental to society and the world, and your victory shall be noted.

I already said I have changed my opinion on that. I want to learn about your magic so we can save the world.

Being as I am a man of science and evidence, I don't get how your magic works. It's outside of the realm of reality, so you,as a person who lives outside of the realm of reality, needs to explain this to me. Once I have an accurate understanding of your spell casting skills, I can make a better determination of their value or detriment to society.

So please, honestly, explain how your magic works so I can make this informed and educated opinion about whether it is harmful or beneficial to mankind.

I already understand Christian gay-hating magic, so I can make the determination that it is bad.

I don't understand Wiccan magic, so I'm not sure if you may be able to accidentally nuke a large city by adding too much frog-leg to a potion.

You're the one who believes this, not me, I am completely and admittedly ignorant to Wiccan magical skills, so please give me a synopsis so I can determine if they're detrimental or not.

Ehhh

The point of the thread was not to attack the OP; but to address his challenge:
Please, everyone post at least one GOOD thing religion does for society in general.

I suggest you guys use ignore again..;)

Well, just to prove I contributed at least something in line with the OP.

Religion generally gives us a model of "How not to be". As long as you avoid acting like religion says you should, you'll probably be okay.

Well I almost shut this thread down unitl I saw it came more or less back on topic. Let's keep it that way.

Btw, getting into an argument with someone and then reporting their responses is not very indearing. Report the post and don't respond, otherwise you both get the blame.

Then again, atheism does not condone, nor promote slavery. If I remember correctly and the mead has yet to get to my head, I think I can somehow recall even Jeebus saying that slaves should be good to their masters, or something along those lines. Religion has a knack of, in particular in their holy texts, mentioning and promoting slavery as an idea. You're probably correct in your assertion that religion may not be the soul reason for the "invention" of slavery, but the fact remains that it, still today, does not speak out against it in its scriptures.
