Pen and Paper RPG players here?

Since I could only find computer games here I was wondering whether there were any other people here playing good old fashioned P&P.
I'm currently playing a German system called "The dark eye" which I like quite a lot, but played in the past Decipher LotR and Star wars.
So, what's your favourite, what characters do you play and ain't you sure that the laws of probability are usually suspended when rolling your dice?

GURPS here. Done Harn, Cthulu (all praise his greatness) Trader etc.

My dice are random. You should try them if you're having trouble with yours.

I used to play tons when I was younger... then we all sort of just stopped. I really want to pick it up again somehow, but none of my current friends would be interested! :p

I started playing this norwegian rpg for kids, but it sucked hard. So I moved over to D&D 2.nd edition which I absoloutly loved. Over time we moved over to 3.d edition, which was fun. But as we were quite young and hadn't completely mastered english, I feel we failed to follow most of the rules and stuff, but that never really is the point with an rpg anyways! I also played some of the warhammer rpg with some friends of mine a couple of times.

I actually read up on the D&D rulesbook this summer (mostly because I was bored), brought on a wave of good memories.

Oh, and I always played the DM :)

Really? None of ours are. I remember one evening failing every single climbing-roll (and the character was reasonably good at climbing), but getting brilliant results in every body-control roll to determine whether I would break my neck or not (and not being very good at it...)

Totally agree. Our group really isn't into munchkin style or anything like that, although we're good to spoil any final battle. If all have fun, the rules are secondary.

I've read significant pieces of it over the past week. While I rather dislike PnP RPGs, and D&D as well, some internet friends are getting into the "dungeons and dragons online eberron unlimited" MMORPG, so I'm sort of playing the video game version of a PnP RPG...

I still play PnP RPGs,
currently only Midgard.
But in the past
DSA
GURPS
Castle Falkenstein
Chuthullu
Shadowrun

I used to play MERPS a lot, but it became frustratiing to be bound by the rules of Middle Earth, EG: no alignment changes except for within very limited boundaries, etc.

Cthulu (praise be) was always fun, Paranoia was great for laughs. Judge Dredd was a better system than it was given credit for, but character development was limited by it's source material.
I liked AD&D too.

But my favourite was Runequest, it had a very user friendly system, and the Runequest "universe" was unbelievably strange, and highly original.

I don't play any RPGs, but I do play Warhammer [tabletop wargame], and I am totally convinced my dice hate me. I have a friend who would buy a new set of dice every time he lost a game.

I've only seriously played Exalted. A friend got me hooked a few years ago. Dabbled in a few other games, but they never really caught my interest.

I used to play White Wolf.
- Vampire the Masqurade
- Hunter the Reckoning
- Kindred of the East.

I pretty much have only played D&D 3.5. I am interested in playing others though.
Edit: I am going to play a GURPS fantasy campaign and I hope it goes well.

there are probably a lot better mmorpgs out there so I wouldn't play it. I played it for a while and thought that it relied way to much on going out with large groups. A lot of the quests were very difficult to do on your own or with a party of two. I just find that it should not be so difficult to do quests on your own. I currently play RuneScape (complain if you want) and I think that is enough

Played D&D for years and years.

Recently created my own game system which is now what I play.

I play tanks mostly.

Basically I've been banned by several former DMs from playing casters due to my ability to think of absolutely ludicrous ways to use spells as they were never intended.

An unseen servant can't attack, but it can trigger a trap, drop heavy objects and scare the piss out of intelligent humanoids.

I think it was the day I used time stop and then inserted several delayed blast fireballs into the pocket of one of his big-bad-boss creatures only to have time stop end and the bombs go boom that I was forever banned from playing casters.

Of course, then I created a warrior who could one shot a dragon by level 6.

This is why I created my own game system, one that not even I can break.

Pen & Paper are honestly too much of a bother for me because I first of all lack the fantasy and secondly, I hate dice in my table games. I'd rather play a good wargame.

I play (well rather I played dungeons and dragons online) could never find a good group when I did want to group so I played the game mostly solo.

Other then that, I'd be interested in taking up D&D online again ;)

I used to play a lot of PnP. In fact my attic has gotten quite a few books.

I think the recent DM were kinda pissed when I managed to trip an ogre into a burning inferno made by chucking a lit oil lamp onto a carriage.

Of course we didn't actually play by the book, so I was allowed to make a halfling monk, which surprise surprise I played as a grappler.

He was absolutely dreadful in doing damage though.

If only I can remember where we took the monk ideas from, I think it was D & D insider, but it could have been another magazine.

Oh and this was in D&D 4ed

A friend of mine is a game architect -- I don't know what the industry-proper term for it is -- he engineers game systems. I sometimes play various systems with him: his own systems, games new on the market, and ancient systems. He also collects vintage (if we can call them that now) systems that are rare or interesting. :D

mmmm L5R

I've been Dragon since Jade Edition, though I do have some love for the Spider. I'm convinced that Daigotsu Masami is one of my characters hijacked by Alderac...

I just picked up a new one last night. I didn't catch the actual name of it, but it's based on The Dresden Files. The system uses d6 like Shadowrun (yay Shadowrun) and is really pretty cool. I love how flexible and open the magic system is.
