Overrated Games

Any games out there that are supposed to be the second coming but you personally just can't stand?

I'll start off by offending probably everyone

KOTOR
Diablo II
Fallout 3
WoW
FFVI

Bored to tears by all five.

Edit: Oh man, I had blocked Spore out of my mind. Now that was awful.

Never played KOTOR

Absolutely loved Diablo II and Fallout 3.

I don't like WOW, don't know about FFVI

Spore I dislike.
I don't really like racing games or most everquest-model MMO's.

I'll go one better than a game that's overrated; the entire FPS genre is overrated.

I enjoy them quite a bit on PC, but the last FPS I remember enjoying on the console was Timesplitters 2. I can't understand the popularity of Halo, I guess that one should be on my list too.

Never understood the appeal of WoW, but KoTOR is wonderful. A great story with a brilliant twist. It doesn't matter though really, does it? It's all subjective.

Fallout 3?! Really? Well, this thread is based on subjective opinion...

On that note, the most recent games I've tried and did find "overrated" were Left 4 Dead, and Dead Rising. I love a good zombapocalypse scenario, but those games just didn't have as much impact as I would have liked. Also, the Gears of War games. They aren't terrible, but I certainly don't see what all the fuss is about with them.

Diablo 2 was one of my favorites. Yes, I'm offended. But hey, you're entitled to your opinion. *Hugs the diablo 2 and expansion set* :D

I think resident evil 4 and 5 are overated. >.< I miss the zombies. To be honest, I haven't played 4 and 5. I did play 1, 2, and 3 back in high school.

FFVII

Anything with Madden in the title.

Anything released by Blizzard this century.

Guitar Hero / Rock Band / any knockoffs

Any of the EA Rootkit games

Oblivion

the Metroid Prime series

Halo

Team Fortress 2

The Command and Conquer series. I take an active dislike for those games. They're just not really fun to play.

i know for a fact you own C&C Generals :p

overrated games EH?

All the games I dislike are overrated. Isn't that the real definition of the term?

I think the first few Resident Evil games are hugely overrated. #'s 4 and 5 were really good, and the first couple were at best "good for what they were." I'm not at all impressed with Halo multiplayer across all of the games. Guitar Hero/Rock Band is a one-trick pony, and playing the games through more songs is like playing through an action game where the enemies spawn in a very slightly different order. RTS games are OK at best, and I have never seen a really brilliant one.

This is coming from someone who likes most games. I do. I rent tonnes of them, and complete most of them. I just rarely find any games to be brilliant, and I find most of the knock-offs to be about as good as the games they rip off. Yeah, Darksiders and Dante's Inferno are both God Of War rip-offs... so what? They were both fun too. It isn't as if GoW invented "slash shit into little pieces"... did it?

To be fair, the Battle for Middle Earth games were and are quite fun and they're based on C&C, but Generals I never played through any more than the first two missions as China before getting bored and going back to Rome Total War or whatever game I was most in to at the time. I prefer tactics and stuff in an RTS game rather than just choosing a good combination of troops and then blasting your opponent out of the way.

I find the whole The Sims to be overrated. All three versions. I just don't see the fun in making a character and then doing the same things you can do.

I think it's mostly the parts where you can make them do the things that you can't do. Socially I mean. I created a character just so I could impregnate all women in town so all babies in town would be my offspring.

I feel Halo gets a bad rap, mostly because of the behavior of the players and fanboys. Its not all bad, and has a b+ story line, but when you play with somebody who has played easily 80% of their waking time, its just not fun. LAN parties were fun for the first one, because it was just four or five people of equal skill all within talking distance.

Anyway, the games I find presumtuous include, but are not limited to:

CoD (fun, but not unique or awe worthy. Just the better of the current productions)
Those stupid games with guitars
The Sims (had to say it again)

Any others were either already mentioned, or I have not played them.

Right.

Except Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Half-Life, Half-Life 2 and Portal. Right? :)

With regards to the OP, Diablo 2 was lots of fun. I'd never say it was "overrated", because everyone I heard speak of the game didn't treat it like a second or even first coming, but like the fun, action-packed co-op (optional, of course) romp that it was.
(Incidentally... mentioning only Diablo 2... does that mean you liked the first game, or...?)

Now, this thread would have made more sense if it was called "Over-hyped games". The title is self-explanatory, of course, but at least with that thread we would have at least a fighting chance of bringing the conversation out of the entirely subjective realm.

:)

Resident Evil 4 is overrated. Everyone giving that game more than 0/10 is overrating it. It is that bad, in my humble opinion. Halo is also overrated. It is just a generic shooter.
Bioshock is also overrated.

I think people aren't going to think Oblivion and Fallout 3 are great games if they just aren't fans of that genre. Would you say Morrowind was overrated?

I think you could probably say any game is overrated, but I do have a few I have played for years and will never become old. THE absolute best imo is Alpha Centauri followed by Starcraft and then Max Payne :D
