Okay, so I pretty much gave myself the label of "nerd" now, but whatev.

Ive played since I was something like 10, starting with white, then blue, green, red, and finally meandered into black. My first purchase was an Urza's Saga tournament pack, and I still have one of the rares it came with.

Right now, my best deck is a green/black creature deck with Blood Tribute and Sanguine Bond, with Diabolic Tutors spread in the mix to make sure I get the combo, and my second is a red creature/burn deck.

Personally not into the newer sets, as they focus on specific, unweildly strategies (when integrated with my playing style (which is imobile because when I finally got freakin good at it and they changed all this shit), but there are some gems in there and the art has definitely improved (good, because that was one of the reasons I got involved itfp, and it has been good to see the newer artists take up the task so well. Sad that Ron Spencer no longer illustrates, that Ive seen at least).

I also got into the collecting part of it, and my collection breached 5k about a year ago with sets from Revised to Worldwake.

So, who else will plunge with me in the declaration of nerdiness?

Awesome game!!! I have a briefcase full of cards. I haven`t played much lately though. I don`t know anything about the cards since about two years ago. I also have an on-line account with a few hundred cards. I should login :) Thanx for the reminder.

How much do you spend for this hobby?
Very little, actually. The store I go to got an influx of people selling their collections when the recession started, and their prices are pretty decent. They'll now fill a small box with 'random' cards and sell it for $5. Plus, I inhereted a large collection when my cousin stopped playing.

I see. Maybe, if I have time in the future, I'll check that game out.

it does, however, require a sizeable investment to get started properly, or a very nice friend.

I'll admit that I play and collect the cards. Though never been to an official tournament or anything....

I played in free tournaments at a hobby shop. But that was, like, way long ago, and even there some people took it way too seriously and it just wasnt fun. But after I got eliminated (the first game), I would just bullshit with my friends and play for shits, maybe buy some stuff, which in itself was fun.

I have an Alpha Urza's Sunglasses... bathe in my nerdiness!

I have like 5000 cards that I'm slowly going through the process of selling my expensive cards.

Luckly I acquired these cards at a very young age when my shoplifting skills were at their peak.

It wasn't until recently that I realized I had bought a single card in my collection and I couldn't stop laughing for a good five minutes.

I played the Star Wars CCG for a while back in the 90's. If there was ever a way to suck up your money...

Also, always wanted to learn how to play that game.

Remember I said this?

Yesterday I learned how to play it. I understand the basics. So, who's going to coach me to become a pro? :V

Well, how do you like to play?

Defensive-white; protection spells, small but cheap creatures, and life gaining, green for large creatures and life gaining
Offensive-red: called aggressive decks, you "burn" you opponent and their creatures with damage spells; green: for powerful creatures; black: win at all costs, even your own life points and creatures
"Shifty"-blue; fuck your opponents day UP. very hard to do well, but oh, is it pretty

Then there's combinations of those strategies, and the more you combine the harder it is to work. I suggest you stick to monochromatic decks until you both get better and build a substantial collection. My suggestion is to look at decklists online, then buy specific cards to match the strategies they employ; buying boosters is a sure fire way to waste money with no gains (although you do get the occasional kick ass/money cards).

Good for you. I was on the wagon for a few years (after they changed the look and the rules), then my brother's friend wanted to learn how to play and I just spiraled back down.
And Im guessing that would make your last set Urza's Legacy?

I've actually already picked my favourite deck-type: It'd be a mix of Black and White.

That said, not going to buy decks as I've got nobody to physically play against. Online gaming is an option though.

Ah, well, might I suggest looking up a hobby shop that holds free tournaments? Online never held much promise to me, but like I said Im a recovered pokeholic so the physical card holds an added paralell meaning to me. Also, the conversation and ability to drink/smoke/such gives it a bit of atmosphere. But yes I know a few people who play online, and they seem to like it.

And as far as the black/white decks go, I venture a guess that you intend a kind of life burning deck? Gain life with white then spend it on black?

I can see the charm - I prefer physical play myself. It's just more... personal.

I never intended anything, honestly. I've tried all colour decks and black and white both worked well for me.
