Hey tux...
The Sun is a populist tabloid newspaper in the UK. Its editorial line is on the right. it's full of sex and violence and celebrity news.... Oh, yeah, and nationalism.

No one is denying that islamophobia does not exist, but criticizing Islam does not equal hating Muslims.
If you look at the Middle Eastern countries ruled by Muslims and see all of the atrocities committed in the name of Allah then it is understandable why some people fear Muslims. So I would not call their fear of Muslims irrational.
That said, there are plenty of people who hate Christians, Jews, and many religious and non-religious people. So those people who hate Muslims are no different than the other people who hate others. Don't make Muslims out to be a the only victims here.
Hate of any kind is not nice.

I think that fear is understandable for some whose lives are endangered by it on a day to day basis. However the people whom I would refer to as Islamophobes would be those who do not demonstrate a coherent argument against it, or have a reason to feel genuinely threatened by Islam. They view it as an issue of Nationalism and getting our country back from the brown people.

Wouldn't that be a form of racism, or at the very least bigotry? I mean if their only reason for hating them is because they are legal aliens and they happen to be brown; it seems to me that they are not afraid of Islam (Islamaphobia), but rather they have genuine hate for Muslims.
Laurens said:Well I interpret the word Islamophobia to be similar to homophobia.
Homophobes aren't afraid of homosexuals, they just have an irrational and unjustifiable hatred for them.
I know the word 'phobia' itself means irrational fear, but I'd say when used in the above contexts it means hate more than it means fear. Then again fear is pretty close to hate.
tuxbox said:Do you guys think criticizing Islam is a form of bigotry? I saw this Real Time with Bill Maher episode with Sam Harris and Ben Affleck when it first aired and I was just shaking my head when Ben Affleck got all buthurt over Bill and Sam's criticism of Islam. Then I came across this video on YouTube where two atheists agreed with Ben on this issue. I just wanted to get your thoughts on the matter.
Just in case you missed this episode or haven't heard about it.
The 2:30 mark is when they start talking about Islam.

Here is another persecutive, one that I kind of agree with.
I don't find the Quran to be notably worse than the Hebrew Scriptures.prycejosh said:islam is the devils religion, you dont have to go deep into the quran to see that and its blantantly obvious but i will say that i admire the dedication and support islams people give islam.

I have a hypothesis (less than entirely robust) that hatreds can only be a result of some form of love. It's only half formed and, as I say, less than entirely robust, but it's an idea I'm working on.
