No one is denying that islamophobia does not exist, but criticizing Islam does not equal hating Muslims.

If you look at the Middle Eastern countries ruled by Muslims and see all of the atrocities committed in the name of Allah then it is understandable why some people fear Muslims. So I would not call their fear of Muslims irrational.

That said, there are plenty of people who hate Christians, Jews, and many religious and non-religious people. So those people who hate Muslims are no different than the other people who hate others. Don't make Muslims out to be a the only victims here.

Hate of any kind is not nice.

The Sun is the god awful tabloid newspaper that is I believe the most widely read in Britain.

I think that fear is understandable for some whose lives are endangered by it on a day to day basis. However the people whom I would refer to as Islamophobes would be those who do not demonstrate a coherent argument against it, or have a reason to feel genuinely threatened by Islam. They view it as an issue of Nationalism and getting our country back from the brown people.

Homophobes aren't afraid of homosexuals, they just have an irrational and unjustifiable hatred for them.

Do you guys think criticizing Islam is a form of bigotry? I saw this Real Time with Bill Maher episode with Sam Harris and Ben Affleck when it first aired and I was just shaking my head when Ben Affleck got all buthurt over Bill and Sam's criticism of Islam. Then I came across this video on YouTube where two atheists agreed with Ben on this issue. I just wanted to get your thoughts on the matter.

I have a hypothesis (less than entirely robust) that hatreds can only be a result of some form of love. It's only half formed and, as I say, less than entirely robust, but it's an idea I'm working on.

Read enough depictions of possible human futures and disregard the utterly dystopian ones. You'll get a pretty good idea of what humanity *could* achieve if our species was shorn of all the self-serving bullshit, religious group-aggrandisement and general political short-sightedness that is the cause of all our problems.

I want humanity to go out, colonise Mars, mine asteroids and do other cool shit on the way to developing some hitherto unknown form of FTL travel and genuinely growing up as a culture...

...why the fuck are you blowing yourselves up over cartoons and crying about fictionalised depictions of semi-nudity among the female half of the species?!

...why the fuck are "God Guns and Gays" important or even valid reasons to vote for any given candidate?
