Guns

As I have said in other threads, I have an irrational love of guns, and because of that I have accumulated a great deal of firearms knowledge and a respectable collection. This thread is NOT for discussion of gun control policy, I would just like to know my peers' opinion on guns themselves, if they like them, if they have shot any, if they're scared of them, ect. I'm sort of wondering if I'm the only freethinker who enjoys shooting. Also, if you have any gun-related questions, this is probably the only area where I can claim any expertise.

I've been part of the local gun club ages ago, because friends of mine were and yes I've fired my share of rounds. Especially the easter and christmas events were fun! Shooting the moving rabbit-target and shooting the balls out the tree for prizes but the best part was the bar ofcourse. Lots of beer and good conversation but hey times changed, people moved or resigned from the club, so did I.

I haven't touched a gun since, and I don't mind. But I'm glad I've had the opportunity to learn what a real gun does (in a safe environment).

Depends on the definition of "skeet" and who's shooting...

They are these little clay discs that get thrown up in the air with machines and you blast em out of the sky. With a shotgun. Awesome.

You didn't know this? So much for your much touted gun knowledge. ;)

I guess I should just stop telling jokes on this forum. Look up "skeet" on Urban Dictionary.

I guess it makes sense that I would come into a thread about guns talking about "skeet" and be referring to some urban birth control slang.

The  at the end of you post made it look like sarcasm, so I decided to go along with what I thought was a dirty joke.

My feeling towards guns ranges from indifference for a tool (ie will it shoot the bird? and will the bird taste good?) to discomfort toward something designed to kill people. My brother in law has some guns and really likes the collection as a hobby. That seems fine to me.

On the other hand, if it's made of pixels and can turn a zombie into cat food from 30 paces, then I want one.

I was in the Marines for four years, and I taught marksmanship for a few months. I've owned a pistol, a shotgun, and a couple of different rifles. I sort of got bored of the whole thing because I never had a place where I could do any real long-distance shooting.

I want the fking gun from Gears of War

It makes anything else look like a BB gun...

I had to learn about basic gun machanics, gun powder, bullets, and gun identification for forensics. That's pretty much my only introduction to guns, however, I would like to learn how to handle one.

It honestly wouldn't be that hard to make a working lancer, it would be rather pointless though because no armor worn by soldiers currently requires a chainsaw to get through, and a rifle is generally crap without a shoulder stock. Honestly there are already much more impressive guns in existence.

There are great tutorials on youtube, but if you wanted some serious training, you could check out Sig Academy and Thunder ranch. How to operate a weapon depends greatly on its design, even automatic handguns come in numerous varieties with several kinds of triggers and safeties.

But the fun one can have cutting their enemies in half mid combat. You know you become invincible and regain health while chainsawing, right?

O wait, back to the real gun world...

I think guns are tools which have been taken out of context of usage and overrated; I will never need to use one.

Depends on context, I know that I don't have a rational reason to like guns as much as I do, it's like pyromania, just not as destructive.

I LOVE shooting, and I sort of agree with you. I might want one, and I certainly enjoy target shooting. I don't believe 99.999% of us ever need one.

I guess posting on this thread was a mistake, hah. I just tried to get into as much conversation as possible on here (the forum). Further involvement of mine in this thread would contradict your request in the beginning, GoodKat.

I think it is probably OK... it is a good thing for people to keep their interest in firearms in some sort of reasonable perspective. They are fun and cool and whatever, but we shouldn't mistake "want" for "need" or think that there's much real-world use for being a crack shot with a firearm.
