Fluoride in Drinking Water

I wonder how people come up with this kind of crap... Do they have nothing else to do than just make up stuff and talk rubbish all day? I mean it's not even like there's a holy book and year long indoctrination, they just make it up as it goes along...

well... fluoride isn't exactly a safe chemical, if enough is ingested it can kill you. So it's actually not that big a leap to go from there to conspiracy of the government.

It IS sort of a big leap... what, the governments of dozens of countries are actively conspiring to kill or maim us with fluoride? Instead of with all those bombs and tanks and such?

I wasn't saying it wasn't a leap, but when someone without a good education sees the government putting a widely known poisonous material (used in rat poison) into your water supply they can come to the wrong conclusions.

Vitamin D is used as Rat poison.... Many of the low dose vitamins and minerals that we need are toxic in higher doses. I hope the crazy people that believe this crap about conspiracies stop taking all that stuff too. 'It can be poisonous in high doses, so I just won't use it at all!' is a good way to get yourself cavity ridden teeth or vitamin deficiencies.

Yeah, and they should stop ingesting dihydrogen monoxide too!

Yup, if you take just 10x the recommended dosage in a day you can DIE! DHMO poisoning is a little known fact, and luckily pretty rare compared to the other ways in which DHMO can cause death. Killed Andy Warhol actually.

Dihydrogen monoxide is one of the most dangerous chemicals on earth!

It is also the cause of death of everyone who died when the Titanic sunk!

For some reason this thread sparked my memory of this video.
Well, she really can't be blamed for not keeping up with the recent scientific literature. It was only recently that Theodoric published a good scientific theory of how rainbows form. After all, 1300 was just yesterday, on a geologic time scale.

Don't get me wrong, I think fluoride is a bad thing, there must be better ways to strengthen our teeth. But I've heard people say it's being used to "dumb us down" and control the masses easier. This to me is way too much of a stretch, and is quite ridiculous.

Fluoride can accumulate into the brain and it is not very friendly to brain cells as it is a neurotoxin,
http://www.fluoridealert.org/health/brain/

But the conspiracy is really stupid. There are TONS of chemicals in our daily lives that we are exposed to that are bad for the brain, fluoride only being one. Other things like getting hit in the head, getting drunk a lot, or whatever is probably much worse for your brain than ingesting a bit of fluoride (but I'm not saying it's harmless, just that compared to other things people do, I think it's silly to say the government is controlling the masses with it).

In fact, probably all the MSGs people chow down on constantly are worse for the brain than a bit of fluoride. We are constantly exposed to some pretty nasty crap in this day and age...a bit of fluoride to "control the masses"? Doubt it.

So, lets suppose for a minute that US Waters you get from the tap do have fluoride in them. I don't know about over there, but here you can get water filters without much difficulty. It's basicly a plastic jug with a filter on top (much like this kettle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brita). Poor in the water in the top, it's filterd down for more pure drinking water below. Would that not filter out the fluoride? If those exist without much expense, wouldn't the government or whoever is infecting this water not bother in the first place? Would they not make any sort of filer unavable and would that not seem a tad suspiciouse?

Since this Dihydrogen Monoxide is so bad, why even BOTHER fluorinating our fluid supply, I mean, it's just another unneeded expense like getting all that dirt, grit and detritus out of there! Surely the DHMO would kill us first. We're just wasting money. Therefore, IT'S A CONSPIRACY! RUN! ;)

It's not just in water

Water, salt, milk, baby formula.. Even if you buy the dental arguments for fluoridation, why is it in baby formula? Babies don't have teeth!

Fluoridated salt can reach every part of the (processed) food chain, combined with fluoridated water I don't think doses can be properly monitored, if we even agree that there is a "proper" dose.

http://www.bfsweb.org/Infant%20F%20revised%20Jul08%20final.htm

The argument is often made in these terms: Tooth decay is a distressing issue most prevalent amongst the poor, arguments against fluoridation programmes deny a basic right to the poor (to experience a level of dental health on a par with the rich) . It is not a basic human right to receive water unadulterated by extra fluoride since fluoride occurs naturally in some regions' water.

It is perceived that individuals can simply choose to avoid fluoridated water and should not be selfish enough to expect that others could simply choose to use fluoridated toothpaste- even pro-fluoride science admits it is most effective used topically.

As stated by the US Centers for Disease Control:

"[L]aboratory and epidemiologic research suggests that fluoride prevents dental caries predominately after eruption of the tooth into the mouth, and its actions primarily are topical for both adults and children" (CDC, 1999, MMWR 48: 933-940).

Re: It's not just in water

Your post doesn't really say anything that wasn't already known. Fluoridation is a blanket practice. Like the addition of iodine in table salt, it's done in the interest of overall public health. If you're trying to argue that people are getting too much fluoride, then explain what the recommended limit of human fluoride consumption is along with evidence that this limit is being exceeded. Then explain (also with evidence) how you know that this excess fluoride is the intentional work of (government?) conspirators for the purposes of... what? Mind control?
