Ever Play These PS2 Titles?

That video makes no sense... :? Inverted = flight control

Up = down, down = up. That's the way a helicopter works

Well actually console joystick or controls don't have an up or down, it has a forward or back.
Pushing the stick forward on a helicopter doesn't make it go down, it pitches down with the purpose being to move the craft straight forward, stick back goes back, stick left goes leftwards and so forth. The collective which is another stick that you actually pull up is what makes the aircraft go upwards (that or you increase the rotation by rotating the wrist on the collective stick), to change heading you use the pedals.
In an airplane however it is a bit different (but not that much different), if it has a joystick and if push the joystick forward the aircraft will pitch down with the purpose being to move the plane down, if you push the stick leftward it will rotate the aircraft leftward but in this case the purpose is to change heading, the pedals are only there to control the rudder used to compensate for crosswinds and the adverse yaw. Basically the attitude of the craft tends to mirror the motion of the controls, the direction the joystick rotates is the direction the aircraft rotates, but then you have to translate that change in attitude in terms of the actual motion that the aircraft will have.
So in other words, games are very different from real life.

A well timed (or poorly, from a more responsible perspective) purchase allowed me to scratch off three of those games, as I got them while I waited for my car to be inspected, which turned out to run me into a four-figure bill. So, I don't see myself making any 'unnecessary' purchases for most of the foreseeable future and the games I got were high profile in my search (Kingdom Hearts, Red Dead Revolver and Dark Cloud 2). And all this on top of what I think to be my current console starting to get an attitude :(

And MGK, I think he was speaking strictly within video games, but thanks for the lesson (not sarcastic)! I think the GTA controls are spot on, for what a controller can do, as you have buttons to control lift speed, the stick for pitch/roll, and bumbers for the yaw. Not exactly the same interactions, but the right setup.

  • Silent Hill/2/3
good games but gameplay does not age well.

  • Simpsons Hit and Run
buggy GTA clone with simpsons humor, numerous fetch quests and taxi missions coupled with freezing.
  • Red Dead Revolver/Redemption
Red Dead Redemption is not a PS2 title. Revolver isn't a bad little game
  • Batman Begins
movie licensed tends to suck, stick with arkham asylum.
  • Tony Hawk Pro skater 4
    sister really enojyed this one.
  • Resident Evil 4
Gamecube is the definitive version for this; ps2 is a shoddy port.
  • Guitar Hero 2

Soon to be released in HD on ps3
  • Sly 2
Just released in HD on ps3 with both other sly games; great games too.

  • Indigo Prophecy
This is farenheit isn't it? Excellent game if you can find a copy.
  • Hitman 2

Unfortunately, I don't have a PS3 (in fact, I think I might re-buy the PS2 once this one is finally dead [he's a fatty, didn't have much of a chance]), so as much as I would like to get a lot of those in HD, eg SotC and the Metal Gears, it's just not in the cards. Also, while I'm sure there are some awesome hidden gems for the PS3, I just don't game enough any more to justify buying a new system and using it for a few games. Therefore, I am content to play these lesser titles, and my sole intention is just to give myself a decent library to enjoy when I have the time. Plus, I'm not one for online play, so I'm not missing much when it comes to that.

As far as people saying the gameplay does not age well, what exactly does that mean? Not playing the newer systems that much I don't think this really affects me, as I even prefer even my N64 versions of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros to the GC and Wii versions, so I'm left to guess it's more of a perspective issue.

For individual comments, I'm just gonna list you back, too tired atm to eloquently present it :p :

Bully- Had it, know what you mean, but I still enjoyed the novelty of the setting
ZOE-again, had it, just want it for nostalgic purposes
Psychonauts-Chances are I'm going to go the PC route for this one, it would just be awesome to have a copy in my library
Simpsons-Again, had it, know what you mean and such, just need it for the slot to be filled
Resident Evil-Probably going to scrap this, as I'm not one for the survival/horror genre, and if I'm getting Silent Hill that may be all I need, especially heeding your advice (and i did think it weird for a good RE title to not be on Nintendo)
Batmen-No PS3 for the Arkhams (believe me, I've seen and would prefer them), and I need at least one Batman game.
Tony Hawk-Prolly gonna scrap, as I picked up 'American Wasteland' to replace a copy I sold without ownership only to find the kid no longer has a PS2, so even though its cartoony vs P. 4's reality, one skating game is plenty.
Spiderwick-No idea what its about or anything, but saw more than a few positive reviews and even a placement on somebody's top list, so why not. Plus I think I saw it for like three bucks.
Subsistence-I take it you mean the camera angle? I have the regular 3, and think this would be awesome as the South to North angle sometimes isn't so awesome. Otherwise, I can only assume you mean the game is so awesome that I risk incurring a heart attack and you're only concerned that I be properly equipped for such an incident. In which case, thanks bud!
Jurassic-removing this one, as it seems I do still have Turok: Evolution, and just wanted something I can shoot dinosaurs while playing
Shadow of Rome-Another I don't know anything about, but the description makes it out to be a gladiator sim, and that has awesomeness potential.
Indigo Prophecy-Yes, I think the Euro name was Farenheit.
Rampage-taking it off, found 'War of the Monsters', which fulfills my "monsters destroying things" lust.
Star Wars: Force-Yeah, no longer interested. I played Mercenaries 2 as a downport, and just knowing what level of shittiness that was I have no desire to tempt fate on this.
Ring of Red-A mech sim, quite technical so I assume that was the root of it's unpopularity. I played some of it, and the 'never beat it!' monster is taunting me in my dreams. He's such a dick.
Harry Potters-I just wanted a chance to romp around Hogwarts, but my brother gave me his old Prisoner of Azkaban copy so I don't see the need to look any further.
Ghost Hunter-I believe I was thinking of Fatal Frame, and got the names mixed up. It's where you take pictures trying to capture ghosts on film. Never played it, but it sounds like it has promise.

And I cannot fathom any rational reason to not get the ATHF game either. I watched a few of the cinema scenes and it's just like the show, plus golf and that's always fun when you jazz it up like such and will keep me from having to get Hot Shots Golf. I also found a Harvey Birdman game, and same deal. Just a courtroom drama game, but injected with the Williams Street humor I so love that made it a worthwhile pick.

Thanks, got some good edits and additions there!

I believe that you can get psychonauts PC right now as part of the humble indie bundle

Metal Gear solid 3 I mean the story, not the camera angle. This is the guy who had a general who wasn't really a general but he was an AI but he wasn't just any AI he was an AI made up of the presidents of the united states shouting things like "I need scissors 61" at you while you're running naked through a hangar looking for a guy to have a swordfight with who is your brother but not but also your father and a clone of you but also not but also you at the same time but isn't, just his arm, and..well..yeah.

Gameplay that doesn't age well is like, the things that made it novel when it came out just make it annoying now. SSB and Mario Kart are bad examples. Silent hill is a really good example. A mapless, claustrophobic town with a draw distance of about 20 yards ( not for ambience but for current development limitations ) no indication of what you're supposed to do, you get like 5 bullets and your only indication that a monster is close is this annoying ass radio static sound, and you can play 10 hours make some great progress, go into a room and die in one hit and have to start over again because the save point was right past that room. All very novel when silent hill first came out, but now it's a guide dang it because very few people are going to be willing to put through 30 extra hours in the game jumping through developer's hoops and poking at every little crevice. It's not that it's a bad game, it was very good when ti came out and it's still good now, given that stuff into account, but the expectations of a modern gamer are vastly different because it's not going to be our only game for like six months.

And consider a ps3 in the future. They're 250, that's only about a hundred bucks better than a good blu ray player, and even if you don't game alot you'll still use it for the media server and roku-like features.

Is this legit?! Seriously, I'm asking because this is one of those things that looks to good to be true. I've been interested in playing ALL of these games. Now here they are, being offered at my liking to pay.

arg-fallbackName="Lallapalalable"/>
Realized today my hobby shop now sells used games, and found a few from my list. I was able to scratch off Sly 2 and the first Dark Cloud (completing my pair :D ), financially justified because I paid less than ten bucks for the pair. Definitely got to pop back, as I saw several others, and chances are I'll be getting most of my hits there anyway as it seems gamestop is starting to thin their wares.

Also, and I only feel obligated to push this as it is one of my favorite games ever, the MGS 3 storyline is different than that of any other iteration in the tactical espionage action games. I sort of get the feeling you are thinking of MGS 2 Substance, though, as I can see the confusion of a non-fanboy in their Subs--t-nce qualities. If so then yeah that story line was fucked up, and my least favorite of the series (also, ignore the rest of this paragraph). If not, then you must have written off the series after 2 and just assumed more of the same, so allow some clarification. It's set in the sixties, so no robots or clones or the like, and the most nudity in the game consists of boobs and female butts. It's definitely a step up in terms of masculinity. The mission is straightforward from the start, with no unrealistic plot twists (dramatic revelations, but no "You're really a clone of yourself but also your own mother!"), and your main objective is clear: Destroy the nuke-tank, kill the Russian military leader, and kill your mentor (don't worry about spoilers, this is known from the start). The bosses, while in the classic supernatural element, are still on the realistic side. One guy controls bees, yeah, thats a little weird, and another is a double jointed acrobat who can turn invisible, but the rest are standard soldier type bosses, like the sniper (best battle ever), jetpack/astronaut guy, six-shooter cowboy, and a ghost. But that one was a dream, probably. Also it has a very emotional closing cut scene, and after the credits are done comes one last plot twist that wraps up that one loose end you didn't realize was going to bug you forever if you didn't pay too close attention to the mission briefing, but enough to retain that important piece of information.

What I'm saying is Snake Eater was the best MG game ever, I don't care what the hardcore fanboys say, and due to its time setting it was free of all the corners the writers painted themselves into that required or produced all that made 2's plot the turd it was.

arg-fallbackName="televator"/>
I agree with you on Snake Eater. It is the best MGS game. It has the best balance of game play to cut scene and cuts out the inflated pseudo philosophical babel that plagues some of the other games.

I wrote off MGS with 2. Tried to come back with 4. Quickly decided I enjoyed consciousness.

Honestly now... It seems you've had the misfortune of selecting the worst half of the MGS series for any sort of coherent narrative and disciplined presentation (relatively speaking). 1 and 3 are my faves in the series for these reasons among others.

Well, getting closer. Actually, save for a few titles (eg Okami), I could find not a single other game on this list and still be happy, and, frankly, I already have enough content to last years of play time. Dark Cloud has more or less taken over my free time, shame I ever sold it in the first place. Already got one character with a maxed out weapon, close on Toan and Goro, and man, I just freaking love this game. I got #2 waiting, and I'm quite sure the night I beat the first I'll be starting that one up without missing a beat.

w00t! Actually found a copy of Persona 4 FES, however I did not have the scratch to bring it with me and it's saying goodbye to all its unsold buddies at Gamestop until Saturday. I did also find the Aqua Teen game, and at five bucks I think it was worth the purchase.

On a related note, I found a game that I didn't put on my list but still felt a compulsion to bring home. Anyone play 'Killer 7'? I started it, but its a bit difficult to grasp and my ADD had me putting in Ratchet: Deadlocked by the first save. Does it get fun? I only remember hearing about it via an EGM preview article, and dont remember much about their opinion. Either way, its in my box now, but depending on the playability it may stay there for some time.

You mean persona 3 FES?
IIRC there was never a persona 4 FES

The Wii is a smorgasbord of classic gaming with the virtual console, gamecube support ( on older wii hardware ) and even a couple really good native titles. (Xenoblade Chronicles, New Super Mario Bros, Zelda:TP and Zelda:SS)

They are making an okami remake for PS3 last I checked.

As far as Killer 7? I'll let Yahtzee take it over from here.

Whoops, no FES, just good ol P4. Still, I have no copy of those games, never played them, but I hear "it's good!" a lot. P3/FES would be awesome, apparently, but beggars can't be choosers.

I am moving sometime within the year, and my prospective room mate has a Wii, so perhaps I shall persuade him to acquire the games I can't find physical PS2 copies of. If I may reiterate, the point of my little project is to build a decent physical-copy-not-impermanent-digital-junk library specifically for the PS2 console, so, yeah, awesome that it's on a better system or can be downloaded, but it does me no good to the ends I wish to meet. Perhaps once this new job that I'm persuing lines up, I'll finally be able to afford to upgrade my game gear, but for now five bucks every other week seems like too much at times.

And nice, I guess I know what I'll be doing after the ATHF game is over (quite short, I'm afraid, but a few episodes and, as far as I know at this point, exclusive unlockable scenes should make it seem fulfilling ^_^)

Ohhh..
well in the interest of preserving your game discs, consider a solution like this

arg-fallbackName="Lallapalalable"/>
Oh shiite, if I'd have known about this a few months back I might have not even bought the skinny. Fatty was fine, just the disc drive was suffering the usual ailments of its kin, and this would have taken care of that. Oh well, still gonna check into that some more, cause some discs in my stock may be approaching the point of inflection where the scratches become too much, even for a shiny new lens. Thanks for the tip, I do enjoy the benefits of digital access, and having the hard copies to back it up is all I need to cross over.

Now just a matter of preserving them all until I have this set up. :|

I'm a big fan of driving games.

Aside from Simpsons Hit and Run, the GTA series (III, Vice City, and SA), Need for Speed Underground 2 and Most Wanted which have all been mentioned, I'll stick this in as well:

250px-Wipeoutfusion_cover.jpg

Only because i doubt many will beat my lap times ;)

Also, Pulse

The ps1 WipEout games are just as good too

arg-fallbackName="Lallapalalable"/>
I think I nearly failed a semester of my high school physics class because the PSP had just come out and the kid next to me had a whipeout game. Reminds me of that sega game F-Zero, which was furkin' sweet.

Black is a pretty good game, although it suffers from an inability to save and quit the game during missions. Sure it has checkpoints, but if you're thinking of going to bed and picking up the mission again in the morning, that ain't gonna happen. Quit the game and your checkpoint will be lost. Other than that its good fun.
