Ever Play These PS2 Titles?

Word on the street (ie what the guy behind the counter said) is Gamestop will discontinue their PS2 stock sometime this year, probably before Christmas but as late as next January, so I suggest popping in and grabbing some when you have the time/money, and while all the good shit is still there. Plus, they're having a nifty sale on all games, and peripherals and consoles are pretty cheap. I recently picked up about 15 games (mostly good ones, too), a new controller and a memory card all for about 45 bucks. Hell, new consoles are like fifty, I could have started from scratch for under $100 and walked out with a decent lineup. This is the twilight of the PS2 years, and now is the time to soak up what you can before the retail market shrinks considerably, especially if there are few or no hobby shops that have a video game section in your area.

This got me to decide which games to look out for, as I sometimes don't get through their entire stock even after an hour, and I get home thinking about all the other games I would like to have found, and I didn't even skim the letters they're under. I did a bit of research on what the generally considered "Best!" titles were, and composed a list of games that I would like to get in order to not feel as if I'm missing something. Now I'm asking around to see which ones are worth it and which would be not so, in order to refine my search and not waste any money. Asterisks mark priority games, and not getting all of these would be a real bummer, but I included them just in case one is a real letdown and I can heed a warning or two (haven't played most of them, just going on instinct).

That's all I saw that really piqued my interest, and if anyone knows any other games no collection should be without, feel free to share. Chances are, though, I already have it, but, just in case, let me know nonetheless. I do not wish to take chances with such a relatively short period of time on my hands.

A game no PS2 collection should be without? Shadow of the Colossus. Put it on the list nao!

Also, Katamari Damacy is worth a look.

kingdom hearts games are actually pretty good if you like the action rpg style of play.

first zone of enders game was alright, though incredibly short, i rented the game and beat it in the 2 nights that i had to return it. that said if it is able to be perchased for $5 to $10 it's not a horrible buy, but more then that is probably nt worth it due to how quick you will end up finishing the game.

silent hill 1 and 2 are arguably the best survival horror games ever made, 3 is where the series started to go downhill and isn't as good as the first ones.

Psychonauts is an amazing game, and vasty under appreciated.

FFX is a decent final fantasy game, better then 8 and 13, not as good at 7 or the earlier titles, but a good solid final fantasy title (avoid X-2 like the plague though)

Guitar hero 2 is just more rhythm games, if you enjoy "Digital Simon Says" and games like the first one, it's more of the same.

those are the only ones on the list that i've played hope that helps at least a little bit

Why isn't Gran turismo 4 on that list?

Also Need For Speed whichever one you like the most, I suggest Most Wanted.

Although it is still my favorite race sim of all time, he hasn't mentioned if he finds any remote interest in cars. If yes, definitely get GT4. If not, feel free to ignore it.

I have Shadow, and wouldn't you know it I just finished a quick session on 13, one of my favorites. Ever run into that large lake just to the south west of the castle (square E5)? I remember running into it and anticipating a boss there, but there never was, and now I like to think it was a scrapped arena, as I can see a good set up for a fight.

I also have Katamari, and love it, but it seemed after I did everything there was no point. I think there are two more, any idea if they're worth the effort? I can't imagine them not being so, but do they add to the experience or are they just a fresh coat of paint?

ZOE was great, and even though it was so short I still had a blast playing it. Plus the graphics were nice for it's time. Never saw a copy of 2, and I am ready to accept that that will be something of a hunt.

I had FFX for a while, never beat it, then I don't know what happened, and currently I just have 12, and the retro titles 1-5 (unless the 3 for the DS is the American 3? In which case I would have 6 instead) and 7. I know 12 is not the most popular of the franchise, but it's still a decent game that looks pretty to boot, and personally I love the gambit system. Erased the wrong file and lost ten hours of game time recently, and haven't really had the motivation to pick it back up. I had just beaten the guy in Arcadia, and now I'm back talking to those tribesmen in the south. Can't quite recall, but that feels easily like a quarter of the game.

I'll leave SH3 for mopping up, but definitely grabbing the first two. Your enthusiasm makes the $16/$20 price tags seem moderate (and hell, that gives me a nice chunk of change for a freebie).

As for Guitar Hero 2, I was in college when it came out and have a certain emotional connection to some of the songs on it's list, and it seems my original copy is MIA...

I could have sworn I put Grand Turismo 3 on there, picked over 4 because I have a file with just about everything purchased/unlocked, but if you guys think 4 is worth it I shall look for that as well. I also played my friend's NFS Underground and Most Wanted, very fun games, and I'll be adding them to my list now that you reminded me.

And I do remember seeing only sparse coverage of Psychonauts in the EGM magazines I had back in the day, despite rave reviews a general agreement that it was one of the best games ever made. But hey, those guys only play games and critically review them for a living, how could they have known what they were talking about?

Thanks guys, got some nice edits there. Only now I have to play the waiting game until I can accrue enough monies to justify a spending spree ;P

Don't get me to talk about SotC... My heart begins to bleed (metaphorically...I just realized what forum I was on ) when I think of this game deeply. I have found so many jaw dropping vistas in the game. Many of them do look like "stages", but they're just there. For no reason other than for you to stumble upon them... or not.

Afaik, there's only 2 on the PS2. We Love Katamari is the second one. Frankly, you've played one, you've played them all. Yet I seem to be the type that can't get enough Katamari so I own every Playstation Katamari game. If you think you've got Katamari on the brain and want to have more moments of lulz with the king then by all means do get the sequel.

Thats about it from that short short list.

I just got done playing the first three Silent Hill games, and while SH3 is short and not especially good compared to the first two, it is an OK cap to the series. SotC is pretty amazeballs, I'm going to go after it HD-style after I finish Max Payne 3... did Max Payne 1 come out of PS2? That game was a fucking head trip.

From those titles I only know Hitman 2 and Psychonauts, and you can get them both for the PC (and I think both are better for PC).
Psychonauts is very good and I enjoyed allot but it is a one shot game, if you played it until the end once chances are you are not going to grab it again.
Hitman 2 is good and it has a replayable characteristic to it, but is a litle old age and it is not up to par with current gaming, you will not give it a miss if you just skip to more recent instalments of the game. I mean it is still worth it and you can have barrels of fun with it, but it is not as good as more recent ones.

Yes and yes, and I have it, but don't know exactly where. I found the case a while ago, so I know around which mountain of junk in my attic to look around, but it's still MIA, so I may be adding it to the search list. As my luck goes, though, I'll find it only after buying it again.

I never mind aged games, and this particular chapter of the saga popped up on more of the "Top X PS2 Games" lists, so I still think I'll grab it, but I also did see the later games in the cheapo bin, so I'll probably be getting those as well either way.

Very good men, you are doing a kind service :)

Beyond good and Evil should be added to the list

I find that this highly depends on control preference. Like playing games non inverted? Welcome friend! Like playing games with inverted controls? Fuck you.

Seriously, I tried so hard to play this game, but without an inverted option, it felt like an inebriation simulator... I'm sure the game is as brilliant as people say it is, but I couldn't tell.

That video makes no sense... :? Inverted = flight control

Up = down, down = up. That's the way a helicopter works

Yes. But unless you're holding an actual joystick the point is null.
There's also only 1 stick in a flight cabin.

I don't see how that is. A stick on a controller or a stick on an aircraft, the principal is the same. The number of sticks is irrelevant. We're talking about tilt, which usually concerns only one stick on the controller at any given time, not straight lateral movement.
