Dragon Age 2

I've yet to play a Warrior in Dragon Age. I find them so dull... I'd rather be a mage or a rogue any time. I think they said that they took away dual wield from the warriors because they wanted to make the classes more distinct from each other...
There are some good mods out for warriors, but without them Warriors were just less useful Rogues who could take slightly more damage. I wound up using Zhevran to tank most fights...

the trailer made me sad. (or the warrior reveal)

simply because it looks like the warrior won't be able to use dual wield. I don't want to have a dual dagger wielding criminal i want a dual swording warrior :_(

I can see that, I enjoy playing as a dual-wielding rogue and got annoyed that the Warriors could also dual-wield. Warriors are very much a sword/shield or massive sword class to me.

I have it, still haven't gotten a chance to play it.

It chose the wrong week to come out. I'm hooked on Rift like it's heroin.

Beat it yesterday with a femhawke, level 24 rogue, assassination/sub d/w spec. She could burst about 40k every 50 seconds with the right party members, made bosses a breeze! I love the twists in act 3, Chekhov's gun made me both weep and cheer.

Going through now with a femhawke warrior, sword and board tank spec, just finishing up act 1. It's very satisfying being able to taunt 10 mobs onto you, take them all with barely a dent and either dps them down or hold them for your mages / archers to blow them up with aoe, then switch stances and be able to hold a dragon's hate and never drop below 75% health ^.^

One thing about warriors that rogues do not have and that isn't evident right away is that warriors, both in 2h and sword and board, don't just hit their targets, they and most of their abilities hit everything in a 180/90 degree arc in front of you. If you're 2h you can make that arc nearly a yard larger, very useful for when mobs of darkspawn come in. The hits feel visceral. I'm going to go reaver/templar spec and be practically immune to damage and very strong at pulling hate.

Haven't done a mage yet, but from playing around with bethany I'm glad their combat feels like you're doing more than just waiting for your cooldowns like daO

If you're playing a rogue be careful anywhere there are stairs, you can backstab yourself right off the edge and have to run around to get your party back.

Also, if you're going to try to plat the game, save just before beginning the quest called "The wayward son" it will save you a lot of time.

edit- I play femhawkes because of two reasons, one is my own, and one I share with angryjoe.
1 - if I'm going to stare at an ass all day, it's going to be a female one
2 - dudehawke looks too much like the sherriff of rottingham

Er... character creator? ;-)

I'm playing lady rogue Hawke too. Not the default one, but my own creation. On playing the demo I preferred her voice actor to the male one. I named her Tera. I just had to...

I'm currently at the deep roads mission towards the end of act one, and I'm enjoying it very much so far. Opinions about the game seem quite divided over at the Bioware boards, as some feel the combat is too consoleified and others that the more personal story of this game doesn't motivate them as compared to the more epic nature of Origins. Personally I can see where they are coming from with the first criticism but it doesn't really bother me. The complaints about the story and characters on the other hand make me feel like they are playing a different game to me...

I heard that bioware censors negative critique on their forums, and even suspends members, which means that the suspended people are denied from a game they bought.

Hyperbole. There is plenty of negative critique all over their forums. What they do stop is trolling and off-topic posts.

As I understand it, the person that was prevented from playing their games has now been allowed to do so again, with EA claiming that it was an error. I don't know the truth of the matter...

So... is it good? I read a bunch of critiques, which worries me... But then I read things about how it's simpler than the first, and honestly that could be a good thing....

I never finished the first. Got bored when I got to the human city and the conflict there... Not sure why.

Personally I'm enjoying it. It has a more personal storyline than the first in that you're not immediately fighting a big evil, but instead trying to drag your family out of poverty, while becoming embroiled in the politics of a city. I really like this but it may not be your bag. So far I'm also loving the characters and their banter, even broody emo-elf Fenris. Eve Myles from Torchwood is great as Merrill.

The combat is faster than the original and the big differences are that there are waves of bad guys during each fight and the "isometric" camera is gone, making it tougher to position Area of Effect attacks at times.. I think it really depends on the difficulty level you play too. I'm finding it quite tough on hard but if you play on normal or casual you can get away with playing far less tactically. The companions have fixed outfits now like in Mass Effect 2 although you can get upgrades for their armour. You still get to play around with their weapons though (except for Varric who has his special crossbow called "Bianca" which improves as he levels up.) The UI is now a lot more modern and clean looking. I like this but again it's a matter of taste and one could argue that it doesn't fit the fantasy theme of the game so well.

The most universal criticism I've seen is over the re-use of areas. There are several quests that reuse generic warehouse/mansion/house/cave/mountainside areas and that is a bit annoying but not game-breakingly so for me. Also there are some "fed-ex" quests where you just find an item and magically know who to bring it to to get 50 silver. Daft and pointless but again not a deal-breaker for me.

The framing device of the story is done very well, and the gameplay is much faster paced. Try the demo.

From what I've seen of critique, I'll hold off buying the game until there's a price drop.

Just my opinion of course but I think there's been a huge over-reaction by a certain subset of the RPG-playing community. Never a bad idea to hold out for the cheaper edition with all the DLC thrown in, though...

Just platted the game ^.^
Heh... from googling I take it that's some kind of PS3 achievement terminology... I'm 55 hours into my first playthrough and still in the middle of the second act. I tend to get my money's worth from Bioware games...

Oh yeah, I'm going to play through again, this time all the way through as a mage. ( I only finished the prologue as a mage for my last trophy )

I also haven't done a male hawke, or any of the rivalry romances. I'm about 40 hours on my rogue and about 35 on my warrior so I've been getting goodness from it.

Also, some of the quests change if you import different DA:O savegames

Probably the hardest trophy was 'unstoppable' because character death is so woven into gameplay, I ended up rerunning act 3 on casual so that I would get it.
