New trailer with some actual gameplay... I can't wait!

At the age of 35 (36 when this comes out) should I really be getting so excited about a computer game? Meh. Who cares?

Absofuckinglutely you should.

I saw this last night, I'm gonna preorder it now heh.

I've been hooked on Dragon Age Origins for two weeks now. This looks awesome.

I haven't even finished the first game let alone got the expansion. I guess I now have something to do over Christmas.

I've played through Origins twice all the way through and done all the separate Origin stories. I also ran through Awakenings once. Looks like DA2 isn't going to be quite as jaw-droppingly massive as Origins, more like Mass Effect size. That's still a pretty big game though compared to much of what's out there in single-player land, and I just love Bioware games for their stories and character interactions.

To be fair, I felt Mass Effect 2's tighter gameplay and scope lead to a better narrative, so I am very excited about DA2 since it seems to be going that way.

I love DAO, but I find the "nameless" main character sort of dulls a lot of the story.

Hmmm... I agree to a point although I think that ME2's core story made less coherent sense than that of either Origins or ME1. The individual character's stories and the side quests in general were more interesting but I didn't find the main arc so compelling. The "you need to go off in the shuttle" bit was particularly jarring to my suspension of disbelief.

I like it both ways, actually. Not having a voiced character allows more scope for imagination but the voiced character does mean a more cinematic feel.

I just think we need some better technology to really allow the "nameless character" to work better. Maybe I am a bit spoiled having played pen and paper games, so I know what a truly customized character can be. I always feel that the custom character approach in most videogames is just open enough to entice me but just closed enough to frustrate me.

What would be nice is maybe having some voicework for the "nameless character" but give you a large variety of effects and tone-modifiers to allow you to make a custom voice to deliver said lines.

Maybe in 10 or 20 years they'll be able to just let me RP out my videogame character's dialog. I almost want to live forever just to play awesome videogames in 200 years.

Wow, that trailer looks amazing. The only thing I ever found lacking with Bioware's more fantasy-orientated games was the clunkiness of the gameplay, but this just looks amazing. I can't wait.

Mass Effect is one of my favorite series(s?), and I love the story a hell of a lot (although I think I'm drawn to it more because of the level of detail it shows in its sci-fi intricacies, for example how mass effect drives are used to fire tiny pieces of metal from handheld guns - awesome). The only thing I didn't like about it was how gung-ho it all was. A little bit too military for my personal sci-fi taste (I'm into Iain M. Banks pretty heavily).

As for nameless characters, I agree that the custom character thing only works when you are role playing it, and have complete control, like in DnD and whatnot. At least, it never has the same personal feel, and you can't connect as much to the character.

Really looking forward to this game now. Completed the first one a fair few times. Will probably go ape-shit on this one.

Yesterday they released a video showing how combat works. Basically it looks like Origins but with faster more over-the-top animations. Oh and I hope they change the interface a bit. It looks a bit too sci-fi...

I'll look into some gameplay trailers later and then decide if I'm going to get it.
I loved the first game.
But it is disappointing how they turned the Qunari into freaking Draeneis.

arg-fallbackName="Your Funny Uncle"/>
Apparently Sten was going to have horns in DA:O but they realised they'd have to redesign all the helmets just for him and they didn't have the resources...

arg-fallbackName="BrainBlow"/>
That is just so stupid.
I like the Qunari without horns. that is more original.
But now it makes more sense that the Ogres have horns though.

This will most likely sound silly, but I already do this; I read the line out loud before clicking on the dialogue option. :geek:

It is kind of a shame that it is made so that you can't create your own main character like in the first game.
At least now he probably has a voice.
And I wonder, is the main character the son of a human male Grey Warden from the first game?

As I understand it you CAN create him /her but they have to be human. If you choose to use a face model other than the default you have to start from scratch ie you don't get to mess with the face from the trailers.

The trails look epic, but I've not even played through DA:O yet. Methinks I'll wait til all the DLC comes out and Steam offers them all for a massively reduced price like I did with DA:Ultimate. :D

the trailer made me sad. (or the warrior reveal)

simply because it looks like the warrior won't be able to use dual wield. I don't want to have a dual dagger wielding criminal i want a dual swording warrior :_(

I've yet to play a Warrior in Dragon Age. I find them so dull... I'd rather be a mage or a rogue any time. I think they said that they took away dual wield from the warriors because they wanted to make the classes more distinct from each other...

different classes for different people^^

I can understand that they want to make the classes more distinct but i just somehow get the feeling that more versatile classes are more fun in general.
