Debate practice?

It would be advantageous to our respective egos to set the ability to vote in the comment thread were it to proceed :D

Alright, writing that down. Oh wait! Pen doesn't work. Here's another. Give me a sec, I'll have to make solid indentation of lettering before the ink flows freely. Ah, there we go. Ink in half letters, but I think readable in conjunction with paper etching. I think I have it now. Okies.

Hey guys!

This is actually something me and my friends do for fun and it is hilarious arguing with all of your abilities something as silly as "Everybody should talk like a pirate" , "The government should subsidise skydiving" or "Old people should not be allowed out on a weekend."

We initially took the format of our arguments from the UK comedy show "Argumental". As well as the arguments often being ridiculous they are often quite anti-pc leaving the challenger having to argue for the inarguable, usually in an obscure and ironic way. There are a few formats of debate on the show but the first kind is well suited to forum activities too.

Here are a couple of clips of the show for anyone who has not seen it to give you an idea of the format.

Old people deserve more respect - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM5S2VyX_eA
Old people should not have sex - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA-zuU7XgGs
Piercing are classier than tattoos - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReNblghR-L4

A favourite recently because of its controversial nature is the first argument in this next episode (starts at 1:35). It is quite politically incorrect so if you have a sensitive sense of humour then save yourself the upset and don't watch it. :?

Kids working in sweatshops are the lucky ones - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3yj_9P-yv8

I'd be happy to debate some of the sillier or harsher issues, I like taking the harder or indefensible positions but I would need to know how sensitive the forums sense of humour is first!

If you need any topics to argue I have lists and lists of them from our games. :D

Nice one KL.

Prolescum, you have been PM'd. Don't you chicken out! (Unless it's made with Parmesan, thyme, freshly ground pepper, lemon, prosciutto and extra virgin olive oil, kinda like this. See, no Basil. Checkmate! ;))

Chicken is for wimps. See you behind the bike sheds after school

I'll try to figure something out tomorrow... and for the record, arguing recipes is off limits as I've no capacity to referee, judge, or make them edible, and I have no herbal scratch n' sniff stickers handy. Anyway, will get back to you. ;)

arg-fallbackName="Andiferous"/>
Perhaps we should also prohibit mention of food in relation to basil to avoid the possiblitly of being led unintentionally astray into the realm of recipes? What do you guys think? Perhaps we should restrict this to non-edibles.

NOOOOOOOO, that would defeat the purpose. We'd just get into "herbal medicine" and stuff. We originally started out with its uses and the kitchen and now we're wandering off.
That's like starting a debate about the uses of girls in the kitchen and then wandering off to bed. (JK JK STOP THROWING TOMATOES!!! Oh, Basil goes well with that. ;))

Alack! Oh churl! The quest to letting go of this fleeting power trip grows more and more a leaden burden weighing heavily upon me and out of this discontented winter...

cough

Aww okay, you guys work out the edible thing but please don't do recipes or pictures of food. I just wanted to be a tyrant :) Sorry.

I'll debate something with you, we'd just have to rope a mod. Aught's kinda busy for now anyway. Feel free to send a message if you like.

"TV is better than Chipmunks." is a topic very close to my heart, as I've always strongly preffered chipmunks myself.

I think this is a great idea. I haven't done any form of structured debate for a few years so I could use a practice.

I might be getting desperate enough to actually do this at this point, and if you message for my participation. However, it is worth clarifying beforehand, what if chipmunks are on TV?

Debate Idea:
Glenn Beck is a troll.

Force someone to argue the negative, showing support for Glenn Beck and Fox News.

xD

It will be a challenge to find someone who is willing to support the contrary because in this forum, the members truly find glenn beck and fox news as trolls, such as when either glenn beck or fox news adhere to the truth of things in which case their position is always biased.

A better topic would be, revise the bible? For or against.

I have to admit that I find listening to Mr. Beck painfull and for some reason have a psychological block to remembering his points, but it would be much easier and educational to read a debate about him. So that would be awesome.

LRkun, Bible reversal as in backwards Beatles records and Satanism? I'm not clear, but I really am looking forward to a debate. :)

If you don't mind.
