Conspiracies you think are plausible

The American Government violating the Geneva convention on more than one occaision as though it is above international Law...? Wait that has happened...

No less than four US Presidents lied about our involvement in the Vietnam War, and our reasons for being there?

Nah I am not a troll I am just tired. Tired of trying to explain things to people (not you guys) that don't give a shit about anything but vanity. Tired enough that I don't care to justify myself anymore. I will just read and think.

I just feel that these days intellectual people are to quick to grab onto social groups. They glom onto ideas that fit their feelings to begin and then once they find a group to belong to they sacrifice theirselves to be a part of something. I will never do that so I will forever disect everything by myself I guess.

Just look at every possible angle. Don't automatically pull out "Uh oh grab your tin hats" because you might not have read the whole story to fully understand the other persons opinion.

You just used the key word, opinion. The reason that most, if not all, conspiracy theories are supported by the tin hat fetishists rather than rational people is that a conspiracy requires multiple people and will leave evidence or witnesses. The larger the conspiracy, the more people. Yet from Kennedy to 9/11, the most that conspiracists have to offer is opinion and crappy re-enactments. No evidence, no witnesses, plenty of opinion.

Here's a conspiracy I could believe:

After the 9/11 twoofer idiots started going after Bush, Bush was going to put all of their concerns to rest. Then Cheney stepped in, and reminded Bush that as long as the focus was on bullshit conspiracy nonsense, the focus was away from the failures of the government from the bottom of the FBI and CIA all the way to the Oval Office. So Bush and Co. decided not to say anything, and let the delusional conspiracy nutters discredit everyone who was criticizing Bush for 9/11 whether they had valid points or not.

I'm not certain that is a conspiracy... especially considering nearly a dozen insiders say it is essentially how it went down...

conspiracy doesn't mean covered up

I'd say the thing that makes it not a conspiracy is the fact that it's not particularly illegal

I believe my wife and the cat are conspiring against me, their nefarious plan to do away with my socks until I'm forced to wear flip flops everywhere.

I suspect that it was the cat's idea.

Conspiracy does not need to be illegal. If you don't like someone, you can conspire with your friends to go out and get drunk without him. Nothing illegal with that.

Well, that's the difference between the verb conspire and the noun conspiracy, conspiracy implies necessarily harmful or illegal, while conspire is simply secret plotting.

It's a thin distinction, but it's what separates back room dealings from me and my brother not telling my mom that we drank all her milk.

I think it was Penn Jillette who said (come to think about it I really have no idea who it was) that there is no necessity for a formal conspiracy when interests converge, this is the only way that I think a relevant "conspiracy" would be plausible, if you have a group of people in power working for personal gain and with enough in common a "conspiracy" is bound to take place

I like a good conspiracy theory :D

One of the mistakes that many Conspiracy adherents make is to expect conspirators to do or say something. Whereas the good conspiraries are as much about doing the minimum required. or nothing at all - but in a way that is still deniable.

Back in a previous life (in a country far far away) my "freind" could raise an eyebrow (or give a half shrug) and problems would cease. sometimes that might be preceeded by some conversation, sometimes not. and sometimes without disturbing the TV programme :D on the face of it would seem rather arbitary (and often was) but fitted within a wider viewpoint (over a longer timescale) the arbitary and nonsensical start to make sense.

My fave conspiracy is Pearl harbour. Just like 911 the US govt knew what was coming down the pipe (that's why the Carriers were absent) - just got the success badly judged. But nonetheless both served a wider purpose. No one joined up the dots because no one wanted to. and some knew where not to be looking. and what to be looking at for when someone later asks "why weren't you looking?".

Yeah, and BTW I shot JFK :p
