Does anyone here play Rome: Total War? If not, do so. It is arguably the best RTS game ever made, with all sorts of features, some of which I still haven't properly tried out.
The idea is that in the battles, each side has an army and you have to think tactically, rather than being able to just spam men like in the C&C games. Things like flank attacks, fighting downhill, trajectory of arrows and catapult rocks etc are all taken into account as they would in a real battle.
There is also a single-player, turn-based campaign mode in which you can move your various armies around a map of Europe (including Britain), the Middle-East and Northern Africa, conquering provinces and stuff like that. There is also a very good diplomacy side to it as well.
If you get bored of it, there are also countless mods, an active multiplayer community and other stuff.
If you do play it already, I would welcome a chance to play against or alongside anyone from here.
