9/12 teabagger march on washington

arg-fallbackName="roxaslawliet"/>
Why are you people making such a big deal out of this? People have the right to say what they want and where they want to say it so long as it is done peacefully. If they are wrong then just prove them wrong with a logical argument or go protest it yourself.
they just hate democracy and a bunch of them are racist.

That's not the impression I got. I was under the impression they were criticizing the presidents policies and over expansion of government in people's lives. Is there a problem with not liking democracy? You are a moron if you think that these people are racist just because they don't like Obama and his policies and you are a moron for making this absurd statement.
I agree, it's pure nonsense. And it pisses me off that they would use The Boston Tea Party as their inspiration and justification. This isn't even close to why we threw tea into the harbor.

Yes it is. The American people were angry at the government and decided to protest it. The way they went about it was much more peaceful than the boston tea party. Why does it piss you off that people used a historical event as inspiration for a peaceful protest? wtf?
They have absolutely no interest in silly little things like "facts" and "history" and "reality." For them, anything they say is really an excuse to vent their incoherent rage at a world that is moving past their foolish attitudes, racist beliefs, and anti-American behavior. They are complaining about tax rates when they are at the lowest rates in decades, attacking "government-run health care" when most of them are on Medicare or get VA benefits, and a million other things that are all meaningless. What they are really mad about is that Democrats won the election, a black man is president, and they don't get to run things. That's ALWAYS been their underlying concern: race and control.

Can you like...prove any of this before you go making absurd claims. If someone or something is taking from you your money and spending it in ways you don't like, would you not be mad about it? They have the right to protest against the government. They aren't racist just because they don't like Obama. Anti-American? how exactly does one act American? just because they receive government aid doesn't mean they don't have the right to criticize it, in fact that gives them more right to criticize it because they have used it and don't like it. Is that really what they are mad about...it really doesn't seem that way when you actually look at what they are saying. Most of them were protesting for smaller government, not for racist societies and I'm sure many of those people would be offended if you called them a racist to their face. but apparently you have interest in silly little things like "facts" and "history" and "reality".

I'm not agreeing with some of the signs but I do agree with some of the points brought up by the protesters but apparently even posting on this thread are Obama-tards that think he's right because he's not Bush, even though he's doing the exact same things. Invading other countries, increasing government spending, increasing government power by means of socialized health care and government bail-out plans and hypocritically calls for change. If people are mad or upset about things like that then god damn they should have the right to say so and be heard. If they are wrong then they will be proven wrong by using logical and sound arguments against their claims which are not racist, anti-American or facist in any way.

When you're ready to engage with people honestly, drop me a line. Until then, I'll not waste my time with you. Here's a hint to get you started: when you imply that anyone is claiming that people don't have a right to protest, you're lying. Apologize for that lie, correct the rest of your post, and get back to me.

Why don't you learn to read? No one said anything about squelching anyone's right to protest. We just think they're idiots and what they represent is idiotic.

As for proving them wrong with logical arguments? What does one say to a screaming lunatic waving around a picture of Obama as Hitler?

You're a moron. And these people are morons because they haven't a clue what they're complaining about. They don't know anything about government policies, they just know that they aren't happy. Heck, most of them don't even know what socialism means yet they're screaming about how evil it is. So they're easily manipulated by the likes of Glenn Beck to vent their rage at an easy target, a black "foreign born" president.

Do you even know what the Boston Tea Party was about? Neither do the teabaggers. These protests have little in common with the BTP but it's being invoked to rile up the "patriots". WTF.

As for the rest of your rant, I'm not even an Obama fan because he's too bi-partisan and caters way too much to the idiot Right. So much for your theory that I'm some "Obama-tard".

Yep. Proof positive that the teabaggers are morons is their claim that Obama is some sort of super-liberal, when his policies have been center-right all the way down the line. He's just a polite Republican who knows that Republicans are too racist to vote him into office.

I used to think I was somewhere in the center but somehow the country just kept shifting more and more to the fringe right into the realm of insanity.

That's just the media and the politicians. The country is still center-left on most issues not involving genitals. Of course, the further to the right the entire political/media establishment move, the more that they claim that pragmatic common-sense ideas that normal people understand are really "liberal" and even "far left." Batshit crazy is what it is... but it works because lunatics go to teabagging parties, and the Democrats can be a center-right corporatist party because who the fuck else are we supposed to vote for?

Yes! I found the video I was looking for to post on this thread.

Do you really think logical arguments are going to work on these people? I mean, they can't even handle facts.

arg-fallbackName="ImprobableJoe"/>
Wow, yeah... that's a bunch of coherent, well thought-out positions there.

When talking about abortion, make sure to focus your anger on black women, and tie it into taxes.

Threaten violence against the democratically elected government of America, in the name of patriotism.

Call Nancy Pelosi a "jezebel" while falsely claiming that Obama has raised taxes "like crazy" after he cut taxes.

Blame Obama for Bush's bailout.

Loads of stupid people talking stupidly.

That one lady who is all for expanding Medicare, but is against healthcare reform.

The really stupid lady who wants to see a Christian in the White House.

We should totally respect angry, stupid people... I repent of my ways! From now on, I'll pretend that ignorant, racist, violent, moronic right-wing anti-American assholes are really smart, well-informed patriots!

arg-fallbackName="Finger"/>
Because we all know that the original Boston Tea Party was led by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson in protest of universal healthcare.

And I just found this.

arg-fallbackName="stratos"/>
You know what I find ironic about the obama = hitler thing. If you are a bit liberal with the context and details it's actually got a point :p

During WWII when the netherlands were occupied by germany; the germans introduced a much better healthcare system, not universal, but if you had a job you had healthcare. :)

Also scary stupid americans are scary and stupid. But I guess it just proves a point that Carlin once joked about. If you imagine how dumb your average person is, then please do note that 50% of them is even dumber. (paraphrased because I don't know the actual quote)

This is what's called an "Ad Hitlerum" logical fallacy. Essentially, its an attempt to discredit a person by finding any similarity between them and Hitler. It doesn't matter how trivial the similarity is; if Hitler did it, it must have been evil. So what if Hitler introduced better healthcare? He was also responsible for the national freeway system. Constructing the Autobahn was one of his first acts after taking power. It doesn't matter who's for or against it, a good idea is a good idea and nobody called Roosevelt a Nazi for recognizing that and trying to replicate the Autobahn's success.

Funny... I've heard idiot Republicans comparing Obama to Hitler... by invoking the Volkswagen! Even positive things are negative when you're dealing in logical fallacies! :)

That was an attempt at being funny which got interpreted for some reason as being serious. Perhaps it's my fault, I find the notion of comparing the two so absurd that it did not cross my mind that someone could think I was being serious.

Whatever the number, it was an impressive gathering of stupid people. I understand they believe, for example, that they should have been better accomodated by public transportation. Apparently, the public option for getting there simply wasn't up to the standards they expect from government services.

Coming up in the great protest era of the early '70s, I find some humor in the irony that older, white folks are now protesting the changes being made by younger, more diverse folks.

In any event, the attendance was a small fraction of one percent of Americans. Near as I can tell, it has had no effect on the current dialogue. I believe they have neutralized themselves with hyperbolic rhetoric and obvious lies. Most people probably are reluctant to be counted among them.

And little do you know that the brits didn't really care about the americas... Until the whole Boston Tea Party... or as we remember it, a collosal waste of tea. Don't you know tea goes best with scones?

Also teabagging is something completely different... Hasn't anyone young and with any video game pointed this out to them?

Umm... the phrase wasn't invented by gamers. Don't you kids know anything?

arg-fallbackName="Fullmetalgeneticist"/>
Was implying that if they had kids they should ask them before going out and calling themselves teabaggers....

I think they have kids... And I think they asked them. Which explains the name.

Do they really call themselves teabaggers? I thought the name was just the author of this thread making a joke.

But anyway, most of the founding fathers also considered it a colossal waste of tea. Benjamin Franklin actually demanded that the city of Boston repay the damages in full. Even John Adams, a member of the Sons of Liberty who would later be one of the most vocal supporters of independence and the second US president, denounced the Tea Party as petty vandalism.

Contrary to what these teabaggers think, higher taxes were not the main issue of the revolution. For most of the colonists it was Britain's reaction to the Boston protests/riots. The notion that the principles of civil government, due process, and liberty itself -- which they believed to be "self-evident" -- could be overturned at the whim of a single monarch was not acceptable to the founding fathers at all whether they believed in taxes or not. This is all spelled out very clearly in the Declaration of Independence in which the word "taxes" appears only once among many other grievances. Since then, those who believe in a taxless society have glorified the Boston protests and used them as a rallying flag for their political views. This type of crap has been going on for over 200 years and has always only ever appealed to the ignorant and greedy.
