Hey guys,

Has anyone found a trustworthy accurate headcount on the mob yesterday? I want to know before my mom starts berating me with how awesome it was and how there were 8 billion people there and what not.

I've heard second hand that the fire departments figures were around 60,000 and 30,000 registered.

I haven't heard a reliable number over 70,000.

Why is this nonsense getting media coverage, besides it being a Fox "News" sponsored event?

I wouldn't put this on par with the town hall meetings (though a few signs there supported the yelling of "you lie" to Obama during his speech) so I wouldn't exactly call it nonsense. Even though I don't agree entirely with their message doesn't mean they don't have the right to protest and be heard.

Edit: by town hall meetings I mean them chanting/shouting down discussion.

They have a right to it. They don't have a right to be taken seriously. It IS nonsense: they don't have a rational or fact-based position, they just hate democracy and a bunch of them are racist.

I agree, it's pure nonsense. And it pisses me off that they would use The Boston Tea Party as their inspiration and justification. This isn't even close to why we threw tea into the harbor.

They have absolutely no interest in silly little things like "facts" and "history" and "reality." For them, anything they say is really an excuse to vent their incoherent rage at a world that is moving past their foolish attitudes, racist beliefs, and anti-American behavior. They are complaining about tax rates when they are at the lowest rates in decades, attacking "government-run health care" when most of them are on Medicare or get VA benefits, and a million other things that are all meaningless. What they are really mad about is that Democrats won the election, a black man is president, and they don't get to run things. That's ALWAYS been their underlying concern: race and control.

Some (well most) of the sayings on the signs were ridiculous, especially the one's who mixed Jesus, Obama and health care :?

The great source Conservapedia said one million. Visiting their talk page as I normally do, they know thats an outright lie.

Most sources I have read (most being right-leaning) have said its something like 100,000. "Liberal" sources don't seem to care, and for a good reason. My guess is somewhere around 60,000-100,000.

i've seen a bit of the event on youtube, most of it i found comical.

im not sure which one it was, perhaps htww giving a speech, where i saw someone contradicting a contradiction while contradicting the contradiction with another contradiction, and again with another contradiction.

its almost sad... but i wonder if there actually were a couple human who were against the american health care reform with a decent argument. seriously, if "obama=nazi" is your best argument... you might as well go to arkham.

Sadly I'm caught in some sort of that position. I am socially liberal (i.e. wtf you do with your time is fine unless you are harming someone) and fiscally conservative (i.e. fix the budget and the debt, scale back on what government does until we can do that and have a fairly low tax rate), but such a position seems to attract a lot of crazies. (I have no intention of arguing my position here, primarily because I don't feel like dealing with the massive amounts of insults that would bring from ijoe).

I think the majority of them are angry simply because they don't feel their position (primarily one of smaller government) is being represented. Protest is a valid democratic method of outcry. Unfortunately there are many other's whose positions are not being represented, some of whom are particularly crazy.

I don't have anything to add to what you've said since you pretty much covered it Joe, so I'll just post visual aids:

What the fuck is wrong with those people? I mean seriously... how the fuck did they turn out so goddamned wrong?

That shit scares the hell out of me: ignorant anti-American dopes marching on D.C. to spread lies, all to the benefit of the people who are raping them on a daily basis. And that's the base of the Republican Party.

I ask myself the same question, Joe. Between the fundamentalist creationists, conspiracy theorists and whack job conservatives, I'm beginning to feel like I'm surrounded by crazies in this country. And it just doesn't seem like it's going to get any better anytime soon.

Yeah... and part of it is the so-called "moderates" or "fiscal conservatives" or whatever those "stupid but less crazy" Republicans call themselves. They provide cover and implicit support to the batshit crazy wing of the party, which is growing louder every day.

I believe the head count was roughly 60K-70K. That was issued by the DC fire department, so I think it's about as unbiased as you can get.

I thought a teabagger was someone who crouches up and down on top of a corpse when they kill someone in games. :p

Maybe that's what they plan on doing after they assassinate some Democrats?
