A plan for zero tolerance of plastic pollution of the oceans may be agreed by nations at a UN environment summit.

Governments are being asked to move towards a legal treaty banning plastic waste from entering the sea.

Wow! This is awesome to see even if it's just at the start of the process. Awareness has reached the point that we can't politely look the other way any more!

That it raises the name of the Montreal accord also provides some serious hope because, just as with atmospheric pollutants, ocean waste doesn't respect national borders.

Given something like 8 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in the oceans every year, this is going to have dramatic consequences for the future well-being of our planet!

It is the end of the process.
The UN is the place where process goes to die. The only purpose it really serves now is to provide a forum despots and western european leaders can use to congragulate themselves for being antisemites.

Saddly there seems to be no feminist, pro trannsexual or anti-capitalist catch phrases which contain either the word "plastic" or "ocean" in them...

First it was global cooling in the 70's and all the oli will be gone in 5-15 years. In the 80 's the liberals told me using plastic bags was good because it saved trees(anyone else remember that?Save the trees?) And I had to read poems in school about how its bad to use paper bags and paper plates. We were also supposed to run out of food, then we were supposed to run out of drinking water...

Then in 90's the big thing was the "hole" in the ozone layer. Bunny rabbits were going blind because of it and was supposed to kill us all. Burned to death by solar radiation..Then in
the 2000's it was Global warming. Then it was Climate change. And now plastic is going to kill us.

All in all there has been virtually no time in my life where I was not living through a life-threatening global enviromental crisis. Pretty amazing huh? Wanna know how I survived it all, Sparhafoc? Well, I'll tell you. It was magic! Pretty cool, right? I survived it all with magic. I have the magic abilitiy to survive any enviromental catastrophe the left wing commies can dream of. That's how I did it.

And if you Sparhafoc are really so damned worried about it, you would go yourself to China and Africa and tell all the people there to stop dumping their fucking garbage into their rivers. Im sure that would be alot more effective than sitting on your butt doing nothing and pretending that the UN is going to take care of it all. Like anyone really believes that.

This is a warped view of the UN which has no bearing on reality. It's ideology masquerading as fact.

In reality, the UN routinely achieves important factors for human well-being.

See? Agenda, not fact-based. You might as well have not bothered writing so far, TNTD.

Oh no, people learn stuff! This must anger you, TNTD.

By your tone, you are signalling that you don't believe in any of these things. Is that the case?

I'll tell you how you survived: because other people more competent and more knowledgeable worked hard to ensure your survival while you were utterly ignorant and apathetic about it. So thank them, not me.

Yeah, because it's obviously a reasonable and logical response to being worried about plastic that I am obliged to 'go and tell' 2.5 billion people what to do.

What a waste of virtual space your post was, TNTD. One might have thought you'd have spent your time away considering and come back on form. Clearly this couldn't be further from the truth. Going to say you were drunk again?

Can you tell us the approximate dollar amount the UN receives each each year in dues?

I see your attitude problem hasn't been resolved.

I'll do that right after you tell me us the price of fish.

Fish are free.

Will you answer my question now?

I will answer your question immediately after you begin making sense. I cant answer nonsensical bullshit questions because that would then suggest there's something coherent to answer to.

For example, what the fuck has the 'approximate dollar amount the UN receives each each year in dues' got to do with anything whatsoever related to this thread?

That's quite aside from the notion of it receiving 'dues'.

I wouldn't hold your breath, his track record with serious discussion is consistently inconsistent which is why he's on his last leg.

I have denied Sparhafocs premise that a UN enviromental summit can be the begining of an efffective process. Denying the premise is a normal thing to expect to happen on a webforum. My argument is that because of the over 1-2 trillion dollars the UN recieves each year, the ends do not justiiy the means, so the UN is only exists by unneccesary economic burden.

What a bizarre summary of the content of your posts in this thread.

Did you forget:

After covering people in frothy spittle, the notion that you've engaged in a serious discussion is fucking laughable, me old mucker! ;)

As for the supposed 'serious' rebuttal, it's obviously nonsensical because you've just denied the utility of, for example, the Montreal Protocol - one of the most vital examples of international cooperation to stop irrevocable damage occurring to the atmosphere we all need to breathe, exist and shit. Going to put a price on that, are you?

Grinding your regressive political axe is bad enough, but when it also employs science denial, it looks really whacky to be expounding it on a site dedicated to reason.

Actually Sparhafoc, you are right. I was being an asshole. It is,of course, very important not to fill our oceans with plastic.
