Hi again Pa ;-)

thx for sharing.
Same I'd like to do. What Ryan said yesterday was the only reasonable thing that crossed my reality.

Thank you for posting this video.

In most US states workers have basically no rights. If you were hired to do a regular 40 hour a week job and suddenly your employer tells you to work 72 hours a week, you have to do it or else you will be fired. In some states your employers can make you work 14 hours with no lunch break as long as you have water to drink near-by. Your employer can lie to you if you get laid off and tell you that you dont have to register with unemployment office to recieve benefits. Your employer can restrict you from bringing a cell phone to work to prevent you making a video or audio record of one of the few rights you might have being violated. Your boss can hire cute female illegal immigrants and then force them to have sex.

Also I know that in the last 5-7 years employers have started posting fake graphs next to the time clock or in the break room showing how the company has not made any profit at all within the last 1 or 2 or 3 years. They want you to believe they are actually losing money. Yeah right. If that was really the case than they would shut down. The owner is not going to pay his workers money just from the goodness of his heart.

There are some employers in the US who still give their workers some rights and a decent wage. Chick-fillet seems to prefer hiring convicted felons and they wont force you to work extreme hours. And I think Hobby Lobby pays all of their workers a minimum of 14$ an hour. But the homosexuals in the US dont like them so I guess they are bad.

Jabil also seems to be a good company to work for, even after the economy took a dive. At the plant I worked at I think the managers even lied to us about increases in productivity, just to make us feel good. And every Friday they would buy us tons of beer. Expensive, good beer.

Id be interested to hear your take on the unions regarding these issues, are they active, do they have sufficient membership and are they militant ?

Im not familiar with labour law in the USA but in the UK there are for example minimum hours you can work a day and minimum time off between days etc etc. What i have found from experience is that despite the law the workplace is not operating in accordance with the law, and in my experience this was mostly due to workers not knowing their rights and entitlements, and the conditions being presented as standard practice.

The solution as i see it is organised labour. Not just in the form of trade unions which are formally negotiating organisations, and are important, but with the next stage of political representation of labour as opposed to the representation of big business "bourgeoisie" (democrats/republicans). What is needed is a political party of labour with socialist policies.

Metalgod,

If you're just here to piss about, you can do it somewhere else. Your first discussion thread with Noth, Inferno and Frenger was interesting and informative, but trolling for reactions is not condoned here. Look up the user Stripe for an example of how not to conduct yourself. Take this is a friendly warning.

Ok. In the US there really isnt much "labor law". There are no min/max ofing hours a day and lunch breaks are not mandatory. Unless you are working a government job. I dont know how this compares to the UK. (Im typing on a chinese keyboard)

I think I totally understand where your coming from when you say the solution is organised labor. But I think the real problem lays in the fact that we are being de-humanised. Why should my employer respect the fact that Im a married man who works hard to take care of his family? All that matters now is showing respect to guys who like to sodomize each other or to people who want to kill born or unborn babies. Right?

I know I have made some stupid posts here lately. And I think you are right when you say I have been trolling for reactions. Its stupid of me but I dont have much of a life. I think there is an actuall point I am trying to make in this thread. I promise I will give more thought into any future posts.

PAB there is nothing more I want to add to this thread. But Im sure we can both agree that greed is something that can really cause alot of pain. I might not agree with your solution to this problem but I would very much agree with you that there is a problem.

Also, my claims about labor law can be verified via any State Department of Labor. Indiana for instance http://www.in.gov/dol

That's pretty barbaric conditions. $2.13 an Hour ! This is equal to £1.39 and the UK hourly minimum is £6.19 even under 18's its £3.68.

There are probably a few reasons why this is. I think one is strength of unionization (i.e. unions need to step the game up in Indiana) and the need of reduced wages for competitive prices and securing rates of profit for the so called captains of industry.
