Anyone else here a WoW player?

I play a Death Knight on runetotem-EU called Magibon.

I played for two years. 70 Undead Destruction Warlock, and I did pretty much only PvP. I was in a guild that was big into premades. Good times, Pre 40v40 AV is awesome, Pre EotS was wicked too. And the odd city raid, but Blizzard's servers can't handle it at all, so it didn't happen much.

So yeah, I had fun, but for me there are too many things wrong with WoW to play it that much. I probably would have stopped playing sooner if it wasn't for the fact that some of my friends play it.

I used to play it too. for two years as well.

i had a priest, a rogue, and a warlock. private servers.

Are there any WoW like MMO's that are high quality and don't charge to play online?

Played WoW from open beta. Had 4 lvl70 chars and now with WotLK I've been busy with my school and only leveled my druid to 80.

Been resto since lvl58 and that's what I do best. During Sunwell I raided with one of Finland's top3 progress-guilds, for a while we were #1 on horde side, downing KJ before any nerfs. Got a WoW-burnout from three raid-days a week, mandatory to attend at least two, and switched to a more relaxed guild. Been on a break for 5 months, but since the release of Ulduar I've been itching to get a raid running and go clear the new content.

Played it a lot from mid-2007 to this February. I still feel like playing sometimes, but I came to the conclusion that I don't want to waste any more of my life on it.

Plus it's a fucking ripoff at 130€ a year.

Kinda wish I could buy playing hours, could just pop in for fun every now and then.

GuildWars isn't bad. The game doesn't cost that much (or didn't when I bought it), and there are no online fees. I do think that this shows a bit, but maybe that was because I was already used to WoW. However, I got bored with it fairly quickly, but I know others who prefer it to WoW...*shrug*

Played it since a little before patch 1.5. Had, in order, a 60 human mage, 60 nelf hunter, 60 draenei hunter, 70 belf warlock, 70 undead rogue, 70 orc hunter. Nelf hunter was the most successful, clad in (just about) full GM gear before BC came. Quit just after the latest expansion.

I have an 80 Shadow priest, 80 resto druid, and 80 mage. I wasn't too into it pre-BC and because of that I got around to downing MC, BWL, and AQ20. When BC came out I lvled my druid and retired my priest where I was able to work my way to Void on Mug'thol. I stayed there with my druid getting M'uru and KJ kills (pre nerf) and exploring the beginning raid content in WotLK (got my black proto drake but god it looks ugly...green ftw). As of right now I retired my druid and am pvping with my mage until summer where I plan to let my friend play my account (wants to put my druid in Elitist Jerks/ Flying Hellfish wooo). Hopefully after he plays I won't have a desire to play it anymore because it's literally a disease in computer game form.

Here's Hoping! *crosses fingers*

I think I am with GoodKat and Espi when I think this game and those like it are just a ripoff. They brag about like six million subscribers, so giving them five just to be safe at fifteen dollars a month, they make $75,000,000 a month? Maybe they could give some of that money back to the players...

He asked for a high-quality MMO. You listed a psuedo-MMO* that's far from high quality.

* Guild Wars' instanced model means it's not a true MMO, no matter what people like to think.

Guild Wars does not compare to WoW. I've played both for more than 2 years. WoW is better but Guild Wars is a very good "casual" mmo.

WoW sucks. It's an ugly korean style MMORPG rip off with a bad story.

As far as costs... all MMOs must be paid somehow. Even if you say only 1kbps bandwidth is used that still 2,592,000 kb or 2.6 gig of bandwidth per month minimum used and that is way under what it is. 1 gig is usually roughly $1 / month. At the maximum they are making $12.40 per account not taking into account payment for GMs and tech support. They are separate. Assuming a small staff of say 10 each and each of them making 40k that's $800,000.00 a year or 67k a month. That means they need 5,403 users if all that were the case to maintain a break even model.

Blizzard if I recall correctly employs at least 60 man team with programmers and such that get 100k or more a year to develop more content and employs 100s of GMs and Tech supports personel. And we don't know much their rent and other services cost for wherever they work. Their computers, networks, and not to mention kbps is usually more around 10 for MMOs so they are really working off a model that assumes that for each account they will only use about half they are truely able to.

They make a profit, but it's not as big as one might think. Remember as users go up for MMOs so too does the cost of running them

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6185347.html

2007 their revenues went up to over a billion USD. That's just an insane amount of money, considering they spent 50-75 million USD or so making the game.

I had a 70 priest, pally, mage on eu stormscale, pvp was awesome. Never got higher than like 1950 rating on my priest though. My mage had rubbish gear and no one ever wanted to do area with me. :p
Pally was a bit of a nightmare, bloody so much gear in my bank. There was little room for anything else.
Eu ravencrest also had my first 60 which was human male lock, which I hated to play because it was just so uber gay looking in his uber gay gear.
Ud priest was my main though. Don't reckon I'll play any games anymore though, the amount of time wasted on that bloody game. :p
Was good fun while it lasted though, I do miss my priest and mage.

don't know if anyone said this yet, but Runes of Magic is pretty much a completely free to play free to download game that is VERY similar to WOW

I've played for a bit, casually. Losing interest somewhat at the moment but no doubt I'll pick it up again and I'm off to BlizzCon next month so I bet that'll do it. I have 68 Draenei Mage on Onyxia (but will transfer her soon), and a 48 Blood Elf Mage on Tichondrius. I prefer Horde but adore the Draenei.
