"what fear it is"? I swear I could feel my interest in this discussion shrink a little, it's fascinating. Frankly I see no good in the future regardless, if you want to talk about "getting any worse" then let's just vote by flipping a coin, it will have identical outcomes.

Huh...No answer? If I made you feel insulted, I'm sorry. I'm just genuinely interested. However the second part of your response just made your whole part in this conversation rhetorical IMO. If there is not much else to fear and you see no difference in the outcomes of voting for either party, why make the case you were making in the first place about voting for one over the other?

There's something quite incongruous about your thinking so far...

Perhaps I'll just stay home on voting day. I probably seem so incongruous because I really don't put much time into such considerations. It's quite exasperating.

So you would give into the pressure to be silent?

That would be your own conclusion. I'm not saying anyone needs to stay home... Not voting for the 2 dominant parties =/= not voting at all.

It's a quite unpleasant process to me. Frankly I probably should keep my vote to myself anyway, I honestly couldn't give you a straight answer if you asked if I truly care what happens, so.

Re: why is there in america the republican presidential deba

Just want to clarify since realizing some similarity between me and KittenKoder in this thread. I'm in no way recommending for Ron Paul to be elected either. Despite how limited he would be as the "outsider" in Washington, I would never want to legitimize his ideas and further increase his number of cult followers by electing him President. Electing someone out of desperation can be as bad or worse as doing it out of fear.

If you don't agree with his policies, that is your choice. I use him as an example just because I have few good examples to choose from.

Re: why is there in america the republican presidential deba

a certain thought has occurred to me due to recent events in this so-called "presidential race".

when this whole circus started it was filled with overly religious nutcases on the center stage. by now most (if not all) have been dropping out of the race. with the fight over who is the most faithful, the subjects have been more on legislation.

since religion in america has always been a big issue (even when it shouldn't), i get the impression this circus was just a whole facade to get the religious zealots to vote republican over democrat, based solely on religion.

your thoughts?

I've been watching the whole dog and pony election show from the Canadian side of the sanity line, (apologies to my sane american neighbours who happen to live there) we tend to get a bit skittish when craziness happens down south because some of it invariably leeches up here eventually.
Every 4 years we watch the inevitable tide of presidential election platform nutjobs and usually we can count on it slowly ebbing into something normal again. (well normalish)
I don't know if I'm getting old and just don't have the patience for this twaddle any more or whether it's actually been worse this go around.

Why?

It's human nature for one to want to stroke their own ego........ Just take a look at Bob's minions.

When one starts to analyze things with a little critical thought the ego seems to have less of a influence on one's thinking.

Good question and take care.
