My great great grandfather was a polak. He immigrated to the US back in the 1800s. His first job was ringing a bell and pushing a fruit and veggie wagon. He eventually ended up working in some factory where his co-workers would spit on him every day because he couldnt speak english(which was not uncommon back then). I dont know what his living arrangements were but he made enough money to raise 5 boys.

The least successful of his 5 boys was my great grandfather. Basically all he ever did was make local deliveries of paint.

Local deliveries.

Paint.

He owned 2 houses. One of the was not exactly lakefront but he had his own private boat dock. And a boat. And drove a luxury automobile. Paid cash for everything and raised 3 kids. Why can't people do that today?

Oh how I'd love to wade in on this, I could rant for hours, days, possibly years. This is a growingly hot topic and I'm glad you raised it.

Greetings,

Well, as salaries haven't gone up in keeping with inflation, etc, we're way under-paid.

I see there are currently some 10 million vacancies in the US, whether these would be well-paid or not is another matter.

Kindest regards,

James

Like others have already said. Inflation. General meddling of the government. Think of when the dollar was backed by the gold standard and when it wasn't.

When i was little like 40 years back my father was the only one working my mother was stay at home. We where with 6 people in the household and we had it good we where not rich but my parents always managed. These days two people working and if your low income (Netherlands has minimum wage per month) you still need government support.
