I've been asked this question so many times to the point where I no longer even grock the question.
I usually just give people this blank look of quoi? :?
I actually think it's laughable that anyone wants an actual answer.
It's simple, there are no Gods, (or any of his/her associated minions) There is no bogie man, monster under your bed, tooth fairy, etc.
Snow white and her 7 dwarves also weren't real, Cinderella didn't have a magic godmother who turned pumpkins into carriages but the story is good. Like most myths they quite often have a groovy story with a good moral.
It's like trying to convince someone there is no cyclops holding a bouquet of flowers standing right behind them right now!!
Um Okay!!
I treat these questions exactly the same way I treated my faux son when he was little and insisting he had an invisible pet dog that could talk to him.
Smile and nod.

Actually I'd like to clarify
I have no problem with people believing in whatever the wish, there are times when I too have dredged up an unfounded belief to help me get through a tough patch in my life.
The only issue I have is with someone trying to force their beliefs and whatever hokey rules invariably go along with whatever belief system they're following.
Live and let live.
