For anyone who does!
I've never formally introduced myself, as an atheist I, obviously, don't have any social skills! Also I'm very unhappy, hate God, want to kill myself, unborn babies, puppies and kittens! Ohh,, and I love to ASSUME!!! You know, just your stereotypical atheist!

But seriously, I'm a 26 year old boy ("man" makes me feel old) living in Holland, Netherland, Pays-Bas or as some Americans call us the land with those tree smoking, whore loving, baby killing, fag infestered, liberal people! Damn, I love those guys!
More seriously: Went to church (mandatory) till I was 16! Left them the day I turned 16! Mothers side is very religious but recently my mum turned down creationism, still a theist though, yours truly to blame! Father is an atheist! Weirdest marriage EVER!
Even more serialesly: I study Marine Biology at RUG (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen), just about to enter my third year (bachelor). It has a huge overlap with Evolution & Ecology, only 3 courses differ! I recently went to Naturalis, a Dutch natural history museum and was offered a spot for my bachelor thesis.....
I'd like to move to Australia (the land of PineconeBoy) and do a Masters degree in Marine Biology there.

What else do I like besides killing babies: Playing with my cats (that's not a metaphor for anything else)! Watching a movie (Donnie Darko, Almost Famous and many more) or documentary (David Attenborough FTW)! Hanging with friends! Listening to music (big Beatles fan, also Oasis, Kasabian, The Kinks......mostly British bands)! Love to watch football, you know that game where it's not allowed to put the ball in your hand, hence FOOTball, my favorite club is Ajax Amsterdam (superjoden!!!), I was indoctrinated by my father who's born and raised in Amsterdam. I also like English football, especially the Gunners AKA Arsenal! Also love to just pick up a bike, go anywhere and look for Arthropods, birds, lizards, snakes and plants....
Fiddle the guitar every now and then but boy do I suck at it!

Currently reading The God Delusion or God als misvatting (Dutch translation)!

Like my signature says, I have the hots for AndromedasWake in a heterosexual totally not creepy way! DonExodus is the runner-up....it's AW's accent! Sorry Don!

Interesting, well, it can't be helped, one must assume in an argument, however, it is more accurate and effective to rely on empirical evidence, but sometimes there is just no means to do so, trial and error is the next best thing or related literature/reference information.

What marine animals do you study? What about marine biology? I'm asking because it is not my strong point.

Try to find critical thinking books too.

Well, we spend a couple weeks inside the lab to recognize and identify what was formerly known as Protista which is almost impossible at species level. Genus when lucky usually just Family. They messed up the entire taxonomy creating a couple of new Kingdoms...it sucks! Phytoplankton, like Dinoflagellata, Bacillariophyceae (diatoms) and Prymnesiophyceae (in our case coccolithophores, which made the cliffs of Dover). Afterwards it was Cyanobacteria, Crustaceans, Molluscs and bigger kinds of nekton.
The first actual research I did was at NIOZ (Texel, Netherlands). We looked at the distribution of Cerastoderma edule (cockle), Macoma balthica (nonnetje) and various worm species like the common lugworm (Arenicola marina) and Scoloplos armiger (wapenworm in Dutch) in the Wadden Sea in relation to foraging behavior of birds.
Determining murkiness with a Secchi disk with upcoming tides near the shore.
Determining diversification and abundance in phytoplankton concentrations with upcoming tides using HPLC.
Calculating the decrease in formerly used toxins (PAH, PCB) accumulated in lipds in fish, Annelida, Mollusca, Crustacea and algae.
I also wrote an essay on coral farming and harvest for commercial use.

Honestly, these are not the kind of things (except the last one) I'm into. I've had a salt water aquarium since 2000 but had to sell it when I started the study. I hope my bachelor thesis will be on coral distribution on the coral reefs near Indonesia, Philippines and Australia.

To summarize: I'm into coral reefs!!

I assume you have pictures of coral reefs? Why not post some in the forum under creativity. They seem interesting, also some basic information about them and how they effect their surrounding environment.

This might sound a bit strange but I've never been to any coral reef yet! When I had my tank I never had money for a far away vacation. Since I've started my study I never had money for a far away vacation.
