When the shine wears off......

Do you find that when you first watch a film or tv-show, your initial reaction to it is more positive and forgiving, than after you've had time for further reflection and/or repeated viewings?

I think this catches me out a lot, and that I quite often have an unrealistically favourable view of fiction whilst it still has it's "brand new sheen", a feeling which soon dissipates after "the shine wears off".
My relationship with Star Trek: Enterprise is a typical case in point. I really wanted that series to be good, and I really wanted to like it, so I stuck with it faithfully, even though there were many things about the series that bothered me greatly.
After repeated viewing I find I can't forgive the inadequacies of the plot, dialogue, acting, etc, and even though I watched the whole series avidly when it first aired, now I wouldn't even watch it if I were stuck on a deserted island.

Actually,....I've got an even better example,......Braveheart!
The first time I watched that film I feckin loved it! But I'm somewhat of a student of history, so all the way through there was a silent scream occurring in the back of my mind.
Aaaannnddd.......the second time I watched it I didn't make it all the way to the end before switching it off in disgust.

So,...anybody got any thoughts about this?

(I can't think of anywhere better to put this topic, if anyone else can, please feel free to make a suggestion.)

It goes in both directions for me. Sometimes I love a movie, and on second watch I hate it. Sometimes a movie grows on me, I start out not caring much either way and then I realize that I stop on it and watch whenever it is on TV.

Matt Smith has done this for me.

At first I was like "Ya this guy is great!"

Now I can't wait for someone to kill the Doctor and give us a new one.

Though that's likely more the fault of some horrific writing this season than of Smith
