Having only used IOS and Android extensively I had to vote for Android for its flexibility. The iPhone is a lovely piece of kit but like all Apple products IOS is really limiting. It seems as though Steve Jobs's philosophy is "do it Apple's way or don't do it." I can see why that's great for some people but it's very frustrating for me. Surprisingly I hear that Windows Phone 7 is actually pretty good. I may look into it next time I'm due to upgrade my phone but that won't be for a while yet.

Since I voted using my iPod touch and wrote this message with it, I voted for iOS.

This is a bit of a useless poll, I think. How many people can claim to have legitimately used more than two of these?

Like I said, it's just for fun. :)

I've tried WinMo6.5, Android, Symbian and older Java-based phones, and I've had my brushes with bada, iOS and WP7.

Me? I've used iOS, Android, PalmOS, whatever crap in on a Crackberry, some older mobile Windows or other.

We go through a lot of phones.

I'm not sure my phone even HAS an O/S. But then, I don't like being able to take my computer with me wherever I go. I'm sure as soon as I do, I'm bound to fall into the nearest open manhole and die. Of course, I've never actually SEEN an open manhole in my life, but that's no reason to go taking foolish chances at this stage.

Every phone has an OS. It's just that the more rudimentary versions of OS in phones have been called "firmwares" and not operating systems, because they were programmed into chips in the phone via techniques that you will be familiar with if you study "microcontroller programming".

Anyway what phone do you have? I sure hope it's not this:

No, no. Of course not, that would just be absurd. This is my phone:
Ah, that explains. Do you have a wireless transponder at the end of the wire?

It would be fun if one of us took a phone like this and attached a wireless transponder to it, and then carried it around like a mobile phone, talking to someone else on trains and buses.

Did that at school for a prank. :]
It got taken up. :[

I don't even own a phone and I'm familiar with most of these because of work.

I stand corrected on my previous post in this thread. Please do continue.
Don't feel bad. Before I married my wife, I didn't know that there were so many phone operating systems. I barely knew there were so many phones. In the last six years, between the two of us we've owned... ummm... I'm on my fourth phone, my wife has had 8-9 phones.

Two people clicked "Linux-based (Other)." If you are one of the two, could you elaborate?
I'm not sure-
but Apple and Android both work off a Linux Kernel...

Um, Apple's iOS is based on Mac OS. Not Linux, and never going to Linux, ever. If Steve Jobs goes open source, you can see pigs flying.

And Android doesn't qualify to be selected as "Linux-based" in this poll because, as the brackets mention, the option is for "(Other)".
