I was in a Skype convo with CASEwithScience, Sir_Pwn4lot, QuadError (Only listening) and TruthfulChristian2
I recorded an hours worth of it.

Parts of the recording is just random talk, but some of it is trying to gets TfC's point of view on certain things.

My original thought was to release the entire conversation, unedited in its full lenght on Youtube as one whole video (audio).

But Sir_Pwn4lot thinks it is unethical because I said I was not recording, or else TfC wouldn't be talking.
But on the other hand there is a lot of "gold" in terms of stupid shit.

And I was considering perhaps redo it, edit it, so it is a better compilation of stupid shit.

What do you guys think?

Should I NOT post it, because I said I was not recording?
Should I post the entire thing, unedited.
Should I post the entire thing, edited
Or other choices?

If you said you wouldn't record it I think you shouldn't post it, it'd be very dishonest to do so imho

Unless he was told you were recording I don't think you should release anything.

Ethically he needs to know if you're going to post the audio...

Plus, if you want to get more you need his trust. :D

Perhaps you could use sections of a script made of the call and offer the video privately as the evidence of the claim. This way you're not publicly releasing the feed.

Yes, I will re-edit it to the good parts, and then ask TfC if I may post them.
If he says no, I will not do it.

If it was clearly stated that it was not rcorded then you shouldn't, otherwise any future conversations will be compromised and nobody will trust you.

I would say it's dishonest that you recorded it while saying you weren't, but as TC probably still lurks here, one presumes he will find out soon enough.

Just because he's a fuckwit, doesn't mean he deserves this kind of treatment, IMO.

Aren't we the ones who're trying to show how the creationists are untrustworthy bastards?

Not that you should listen to my opinion, I'm usually on the wrong side of consensus :(

What does it say about you if you release audio that you stated you were not recording?

I hate duplicity of all colours, dishonesty is at the core of religion which I fight against daily. So no, release nothing without his express consent, and don't pressure him at all. Ask, nicely. If it's a no, release nothing.

Exactly

Since when does that make you wrong?

Wrong, in this case, is not attributed to himself but to 'side' - the side of the consensus he's referring to as the one he's on.
He's not saying he was wrong, just that he tends to disagree with the lot.

And well, if you say you're not recording it and you are, that's bullshit. If there's four people who are earwitnesses, why record it anyway?
And beyond that, why would you possibly need any more bullshit TC said? There is plenty of that around already. He's a teenager with a very twisted sense of reality, why give him all the attention he's craving? I don't get it.

True, but majority rules, man. I acquiesce with democratic demure

Although I'm heartened that in this case, I'm well in.

I did tell him at the end of the conversation it had been recorded.
But I think I will ask him, if I may use anything of it.
(And remember to save his acceptance of it)

My dilemma was also that you cannot get him to talk "freely" about this stuff if you say you are recording, then he goes into his "Reading stuff from websites" mode.
'
But yeah, the end does not justify the means.

While I agree with finchfrance, that it is really all on you and having us give input would sort of be a "well they told me it was okay/not okay!" (I paraphrased a little there), but the asshole that I am says just put the whole thing out there. On the other hand, they would probably get REALLY PISSED OFF and you may burn some bridges *(I dont know who they are, mutual colleagues of some sort or intellectual adversaries)*.

All in all, I say at the very least post an edited version with the best little chunklettes.

Let me get this straight... You're want to compromise your ethical standards (the fact that you are even asking us indicates that you know this is below you) in order to mock TruthfulChristian? TC has about as much charisma as dog shit stuck to your shoe. There's no need to scare away any of his potential cult followers because he'll never have any. Leave the guy alone.

Not entirely. Not nearly as much as me, and I mean this in a good way. :D

What I meant to say is aready said, so... If TC meant whatever he said with that much zeal, he would have already said it publically. I could be pedantic here but. ;)

Anyone who values winning arguments above being concise may say things without analysing their implications or truly believing them. Me included. I love to argue... I've said stupid things I'd love to take back, too.

I feel the need to point out that in many states all parties involved have to give consent to being recorded otherwise it's treated as wiretapping and hence illegal. Telling him at the end of a long discussion "Oh I've recorded all of this" isn't really kosher.

Yeah, and releasing it opens you up to legal issues depending on the jurisdiction.

Plus, the recording itself was enough of an ethical breach. There's no reason why you should compound your error in judgment by posting the recordings without permission. Especially not for the dumbest person on the planet.
