What is the most frightening thing in the world?

It is almost impossible to accurately label something as universally horrifying. So don't look into it too much. Just tell us what the scariest thing that you have ever seen, It can be fiction or fact. Use as much description as you wish.


Well, this is probably the most terrifying thing I have seen, fortunately, they are fiction.

Basically they cannot move while you are looking at them but the second you avert your gaze they move very rapidly. Granted they don't actually kill you, but be honest, your staring at a statue, you blink and then your faced with this:

Meh, DW is mildly entertaining. I only really bother watching it because it managed to base two of it's episodes on my biggest bugaboo.

Love Doctor Who. :) Daleks, scary Dareks!

I used to be quite freaked by doctor who, but I've held on to a kind of win-win philosophy that tends to dilute my fear of horror stuff. As a kid though, the walking hand episode was very memorable and remained in my nightmares for a very long time.

I don't usually get much of a reaction from horror films. Sixth sense did leave me thinking, though, and that's quite scary.

well the most frighting experience I've had was caused by my fever, if that counts. I was sixteen years old If i remember correctly.

I woke up early in the morning, the walls and ceiling were coming closer, and I had some hallucination kind of thing. I saw (imagined) some kind of angel, very slim and tall, it was gigantic, shining yellow. it was more like two crossed yellow beams. the shining was accompanied by sound which was something in between high-frequency noise and a sound of a violin, it was looking straight at me.

the next image, (which I assumed was in the vicinity of the angel creature) were two humanoids, crawling on yellowish rocks, under the yellow sky. they had no eyes and had pointed hands and legs.

I had never before, nor since, been so frightened!

religion? oh it had nothing to do with religion. I was an atheist by then.

it's not really that frighting when you imagine it now, but I had fever and didn't really understand was it real or not.

Eternal torture/suffering. You can bet that a lot of people call themselves religious just because they fear this.

Most frightening... in terms of fear - I'm not usually frightened, and there's a reason for that, but I had a couple of nightmares that had me in terror.
Most frightening thing I've ever seen, in a more general sense: a graphic documentary on female circumcision. I can watch splatter movies, corpses on the battlefield, open heart surgery just fine... but that one actually made me avert my eyes. Just couldn't bear it. Also makes me want to beat the shit out of those sick fucking bastards.

I'm curious, if you don't mind... Are you male or female? What country do you live in? And are you bothered by male circumcision?
