On the overall Reality shows are crap.. UNLESS, they teach you something or expose you to something you may have not otherwise been aware of - I prefer reality shows that act as documentaries:

1.) Intervention
2.) The 1st 48hrs
3.) Hoarders
4.) Gangland
5.) National Geographic's: Locked-up abroad ( people recapping their experiences in foreign jails/hostage situations.

I really do not like reality. I watched a few things when I was younger, before we could get a decent computer/internet cheaply and there was nothing on during a cold winter night... But never religiously, and it makes me sick to see how many previously respectable T.V. companies aren't even doing what their name implies. MTV is all reality, Documentary Channel is all reality.

I don't dislike people for watching them, I mean they must be popular enough that they've taken over the airwaves. I just hope they won't last forever... or at least they will all stick to a conglomerate "reality TV" channel.

The only one I ever found enjoyable was called "Space Cadets", which was a reality TV show taking the piss out of the stupidity of the sorts of people to go on reality TV. Basically, they got a load of volunteers and made the more gullible ones think they had passed some kind of test to allow them to go into space as the first ever space tourists. They did all the training in a very authentic-looking "Russian base" which was actually just a heavily-modified industrial site in the English countryside. They flew there on a plane which circled a couple of times around Scotland and then landed at the "base".
They then gave them all sorts of training and instruction, building up the credibility of the participants. One thing they did was tell them about the artificial gravity built into the ship  . Then, out of those gullible people, the 7 most gullible were selected, put inside a "rocket" and supposedly sent into low-Earth orbit, along with four actors (2 "pilots" and 2 "participants"). Every time they tried to look at Earth, they saw only a screen with a picture of it. This went on just like a real reality TV show for a couple of weeks before they went on a "spacewalk" which was in fact the live, televised revealing that they had been being tricked all along.

Made for hilarious viewing, although it was very painful sometimes to watch the sheer stupidity and lack of incredulity displayed by the participants.

My top 5 reality shows:

1. A Group of irritating assholes that you couldn't imagine spending five minutes in the company of are locked in a house for 13 weeks while they learn how much they can hate each other and slowly wait until they discover which of them, despite having several considerable character flaws, the public relates to most.
2. America's Best/Worst Generic Thing.
3. A Group of irritating "Celebrity" assholes that you couldn't imagine spending five minutes in the company of are locked in a house for 13 weeks while they learn how much they can hate each other and slowly wait until they discover which of them, despite having several considerable character flaws, the public relates to most.
4. A bunch of twats who take for granted their comfortable lifestyles are placed into a situation where they come to the realisation that for many people life can actually be hard.
5. A bunch of "Celebrity" twats who take for granted their comfortable lifestyles are placed into a situation where they come to the realisation that for many people life can actually be hard.

In truth reality TV has it's own spectrum, some can be well thought-out and put together with some educational value, whilst many are cheap production-line television "entertainment" that takes advantage of the stupidity of the masses, creating money from premium-rate phone lines where people ring in to vote for which person they think would make the best for the leading role of "Ultimate Dancing Oliver! Strictly on Ice: The Musical: Ghost Adventure in a Tudor House"

I love that one. My fave was the episode when that one kids TV presenter who got her boobs out in an attempt to seem more adult and credible but ultimately ruined her career had to spend a week as hand dryer in a men's toilet.

hrm? :)

I personally abhor reality tv. Mostly because its crap and everybody I work with talks about it as if it actually impacted their lives, and regular tv is being outsourced to this foul medium.
