Westboro Baptist Church

Most preachers I've known live by the Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner motto.

Westboro says this also, it's gibberish. You cannot hate John's life while loving John, it's nonsensical rationalization.

I feel like most mainstream Christians' interpretation of Jesus' message is "Be nice to people," which the WBC isn't. Literally though, yeah I think they're right on the money.

When the old man kicks I'll just be glad he's not there anymore to poison children's minds with his hatred. To me the WBC is really just the church of Fred Phelps. His followers let him scare his hatred into their kids, and I think that once he's dead the church will wither and die, or at least become more standardized.

I don't know, I'm sure there will be someone else in the family who will take over.

Does anyone find it odd that Fred's career started as a Civil Rights attorney for African-Americans?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps#Civil_rights_attorney

"In the 1980s, Phelps received awards from the Greater Kansas City Chapter of Blacks in Government and the Bonner Springs branch of the NAACP, for his work on behalf of black clients."

Kind of funny. But then he got disbarred for calling somebody a slut and committing perjury.

I'm going to go protest his funeral.

Why? I'm going to leave flowers and a placard as often as possible, thanking whatever causes his end...

And yes, he is one of the few people that rate onto my "hate or detest" list.

westboro makes me sick. they spout hatred and torment grieving families. in some states they have restricted some of the activities of this hateful bunch, such as making laws on how far they they have to be from the funeral.

The true atrocity is that such laws must exist...

No, the atrocity is that these laws exist, and shouldn't. I hate the Phelps clan as much as anyone, but making special laws to restrict their behavior is worse than anything they have to say.

Then should we add staples to laws -
such as if they come within 100 feet of a fellow shipmate's funeral with their signs and chanting I have all rights to bust a skull or two?

:/

The phrase you're looking for Joe is:
"THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS."

The westboro baptist church is a business. They're in the business of suing governments and people by continually trolling governments and people into violating WBC's rights... That's all. I doubt they even believe most of the vile they spout.
