This post is to serve as a reminder that Venus will transit the Sun on June 5th, 2012 or June 6th, 2012, depending on your location. You can review the following document for further details about the specific nature and time of the transit (the transit will not be visible on some parts of the Earth, please check the second link for further details). Just as a reminder that the next Venus/Sun transit will not occur until 2117. So catch it if you can...... ;) "My telescope viewing pose"

A small side of sauce:

Also remember that when viewing the sun make sure to follow all of the appropriate eye protection guidelines.

Nice video produced(?) by NASA:

I inevitably resorted to following the livestream on Phil Plait's blog, as well as NASA's Eclipse Site. Plait's resplendent coverage in particular, compensated somewhat for the disappointment I experienced within those 48 hours. The astronomy club I partake in (connected to my college) planned a Venus-transit viewing group of which I was to enrol in, which was ultimately cancelled due to the presence of dismal, heavily overcast weather-conditions. In the meantime, while waiting for the next transit in over 106 years time, I am considering my second trip to Chile's Atacama Desert. There are a number of world-class observatories stationed there to take advantage of the Earth's best viewing location, most notably ESO's "Very Large Telescope".

In addition, here is a very cool 720p high-definition video of the Venus heliotransit, which was taken from the best usable vantage point of NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, c / o Goddard SFC. It may be advisable to watch in full-screen mode, if you are not already in the habit of doing so (as I am).

i think that would have been Fraser Cains hangout with Phil right? i watched that too, was good fun.
Fraser does lots of great stuff over on google+. Its the only social media site i use because there are so many space casts going on there.

Next big event... CURIOSITY landing.
seriously biting finger nails over that landing system
