USB - Satan's Data Connection

Evangelical Christians in Brazil have banned the use of USB connections after claiming the technology is the mark of Satan-worshippers.

Evangelical Christians in Brazil have apparently banned the use of USB connections after claiming the technology is the mark of Satan-worshippers (Hat tip: Fernando Frias). Apparently the revelation came after the evangelists noticed that the USB symbol resembles a trident. Presumably they're not great fans of Britain's ballistic missiles either.

According to its founder, the "Apostle" Welder Saldanha says that this is just another symbol of Satan, which is always present in all Christian homes.

"The symbol of that name is a trident, which is used to torture souls that go to hell," said the group's founder. "Use (of a symbol like that) shows that all users of that vile technology are actually worshipers of Satan." Fortunately, Bluetooth is still okay, as "blue was the color of the eyes of our savior Jesus Christ."

This has to be bullshit. What do you think?

Well, I'd never underestimate the craziness of fundies, but this hasn't appeared in any authoritative news sources yet.

You're right. It must be bullshit. No way this is real.

I can definitely see something like this happening though.

Of course it's bullshit. It comes from the site http://bobolhando.com.br, which is a Humor and Entertainment blog. The phrase "bobo olhando" even means "silly looking".
The Guardian even linked to the original story from June 29th. Are they really that stupid to think this is real, or is this some trick to get attention? Anyway, the story is going viral on teh internetz...

It's amazing how easy it is to spread bullshit...

I don't know if it was there originally, but the Guardian article mentions that it came from a site which publishes both joke and serious news. The author of this original piece insists it isn't a joke.

Well we all know what we have to do to confirm it right?

Get a Brazilian... I mean, find a Brazilian... I mean, find a person from Brazil, and ask them to go to the nearest electronics store and see if they can't buy one.

I get the impression this church are just banning their members from using them, not that the country has banned them at their request.

Universal Satan Bus, connecting directly to the devil.
It might be a joke, but then again how many times we have been wrong about that?
