7 billion people and you, what's your number??

"The world's population is expected to hit seven billion in the next few weeks. After growing very slowly for most of human history, the number of people on Earth has more than doubled in the last 50 years. Where do you fit into this story of human life? Fill in your date of birth below to find out."

Useful

I love the BBC.

Did you ever take the music quiz?

After all, we're no more than just numbers.

edit: I'm number 4,445,902,729th

edit2: I'm also number 79,030,224,516th

BTW, I'm not looking forward to finding out what the world looks like at 10+ Billion. Forget zombie apocalypse, live humans tear each other apart when resources are scarce. We already do it for oil and minerals.

That could be interesting actually. We don't know what new technology we'll (i.e. the scientists) come up with. One thing is certain, we'll have to change the way we're operating on this planet. It seems standing with our backs against a wall could provide a perfect opportunity for that.

If we fail, well, the universe won't miss us. It's not like a society of sentient beings is a goal of the Universe.

Here's a National Geographic video that puts our population explosion in stark perspective:

When you juxtapose this portrayal against the reality of global climate change, it's difficult NOT to reach some crushingly bleak conclusions about the human race. :(

I reckon we can expect an upper bound of about 12 billion before the population is crushed under it's own weight. There are simply too many of us on this planet. And when you consider that by 2030 the population is expected to be at 8 billion, and 9 billion by 2050.... then perhaps by the end of the century our population may well have swollen to that level, provided that catastrophic climate change such as 4+ C global warming haven't driven our population down already. If so, then perhaps we will see a huge reduction in population by the time this century is out.

BILLIONS and BILLIONS

Anyhow, I'm still waiting for us to Colonize the Moon - perhaps we can make it where all the flat-Earthers can live?

Yeah, and we should remove one eye from each so the earth would still seem like a flat disc

Seems to me that I don't have much use for about 6.5 billion of you. Feel free to leave, and take your crap with you.
