THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT AND REPUBLICAN MISOGENY

Congress is trying to pass another bill that will take America another step forward in the rights of women, minoritities, and the lbgt community. The violence against women act would provide shelter and protection, and now the democrats have thankfully revised the bill to including, not threatening reporting ethnic minorities using it's services with deportation, not decriminating on both sides of the LBGT community and not discriminating againt trangender people. Of course the biggoted republicicans decided this would piss off the version of Jesus that lives in their heads, were else does he live, you know the one that hates women, minorities, the disabled, and gays, nevermind the sermons he made in the four gospels about being the left wing revolutionary, it seems only us atheists only know the true nature of jesus and he died for political reasons, not for our souls. Anyway They are up in arms about this, so how dare that creepy Mormon Mitt Romney say Barack Obama is on a war against women. Was it not Mitt Romney's Church during Romney's adult life time that bussed several women to block the equal rights amendment, and they publicly shamed one of their own members and excommunicated her for publically supporting equall rights for women. If you are reading this and getting tired of Obama's empty promises from 2008, I still beg you do not vote for Romney, if you are one of the minorities listed, it would be a horrible mistake to get Romney in and have a potentail for a tea party congress. I do not doubt he would put our civil rights over his church position, his so called worthyness to enter a Mormon temple, or other Mormon things. The Church would put things like that over his head to controll U.S policy if Mitt Romney is Elected in November 2012.

No I don't believe that was the OP's issue (please feel free to correct me on that AC)
I think that by singling out particular groups as in the "violence against women act" actually does the opposite and separates them further from their societal peers.
It's a little like "don't think about elephants".
It should be a "violence against people act" anyone can be a victim of violence there is no need to single out women, immigrants, LGBT, your aunt sally, or whomever.

I agree I think they should of named the bill a bit different. When I had problems with my ex bf the cops here offered to press domestic charges against him instead of no tresspass order, but I declined the domestic charges, he never abused me too badly, to warrent his 3rd felony wich would get him 5 years, that would be a bit harsh i think for what he did to me, also I was surprised the cops here would bother in helping out in a gay domestic, if you knew how they treated other minorities here, pretty much jim crow county here, for gays, or any minority.

Also Lady at the dollar store looked at me like i was a well fair queen with 4 kids and 3 babby daddys and all you have to do is spend 2 minutes around me and know i am a bit slow and disabled. Also bartender says he dont give a shit on what i have to say about how nations like canada save lives from hiv and hepititus by passing out clean needles to addicts no questions asked, the statistics dont mean shit he said, I tried reasoning but did not work, oh well there is more, but these people are back word fundies.

"The Violence Against Women Act" sounds very much something that demands that there should be more violence against women. I actually have a quasi-friend who's catchphrase is "women should be hit more often". It's not as bad as it sounds. Once upon a time his ex bumped into him in a bar and she started beating him up (and not just slaps but as-hard-as-one-can punches) and he, as self defense, hit her once. His reply to the unavoidable "but you can't hit women" was "women should be hit more often", meaning that if a woman hits a man she shouldn't expect her gender to protect her from getting hit back.

Many of my gender might dislike my honest opinion on this but yes.

Like I've discussed on other threads it's difficult to have true equal rights in all areas with men, because women (for the most part) will always be physically weaker/smaller than their male counterparts.
If a woman decides to punch a man first and be the physical aggressor then as far as I'm concerned she's saying "it's on!!! wanna go punk??" and she should be prepared to actually understand that it's going to turn into an actual physical fight.
Just like she would if she walked up and punched another woman.
I know in my own life, I spent a years cowering under a emotionally and physically abusive spouse. I actually blame society for the fact that women don't instinctively try to defend themselves. The best thing I ever did for my own self esteem was stand up one day and say "ok man, you want to play? lets see what you've got"
Now I will admit it wasn't technically a "fair" fight as he was once again hammered/drugged (which is usually when the violence was initiated previously) at the time.
But, after that he didn't try to get physical again.
Oh, just one more thing the only time I believe a woman has the right to physically engage without the expectation of being hit back is if a guy just grabs your ass as you walk by, you are so allowed to just slap him and it shouldn't go beyond that.
Could my views on this be wrong? Possibly..... but it's what I believe until someone proves me wrong.

As an interesting notion some research done late here in Finland suggest that women are actually as physicly violent in relationships as men and that they are heavily reprisented (ie, more than men) when talking about physical abuse of children. I think the image of a weak woman that can't do much physicly is one of the most stuck stereotypes of the society here. As a symptom there has been very little talk or research on women on man violence, probably because of the "woman is always the victim in a fight" mentality and because men who get physicly abused by women are thought to be wimps that can't handle their women. Fortunately there has been some real research on the subject these last few years.

I haven't had dial up since 98. How do you function on dialup?.... like you don't mean ACTUAL dial up with that little modem song just to connect to the internet on something like 56k.....do you?

yep 56k dial up, they are just now installing fibre optics here possibly giving us more options on high speed. right now we only have one dsl carrier and i cant get them due to verizon screwing me over, other option is satelite. when i got my new windows 7 laptop i had to buy a usb 56k modem because they no longer make them preinstalled on computers, i have to tranfer it to my desktop to just sit over night online for updates to download since the pci modem fried in a storm. the fastest highspeed availble here btw is 3mbs btw.

Agree, but I think the bigger issue is that's its buried so deeply that they don't even realize that's the underlying motivator.

The bigger issue is this whole lumping of people together thing (I'm sure there's a more educated and definitive way to say that but... meh, whatever)

They also usually make the mistake of lumping people together in categories that don't have much to do with reality.
Sweeping stereotyping statements about a group of people based on......race, gender, religion (or lack of religion) , sexual orientation what have you.

Some examples (and please no one take offence, these are not my beliefs or statements just regurgitations/paraphrasings of the BS we hear everyday in these candidate speeches)
1.Women use abortion as a method of birth control instead of keeping their legs closed like good girls, so these sluts can't be trusted obviously
2. Gay's/Lesbian's are perverts and that type of behaviour leads to incest and abuse.
3. Blacks/aboriginals are.......Actually fuck it, you get the idea, and typing out this sort of nonsense actually makes my jaw hurt from clenching it so badly.

Ok so back to the first one, there might be the odd junkie hoe, who might possibly not be making the correct choices for her health and pregnancy etc etc.
But to take those few and far between examples and tar a whole nation of females with that same brush is beyond ludicrous.
Same with the LGBT's ok so you have some priests or child molester boyscout leader out there and all of a sudden ALL persons who prefer their own gender are a bunch of paedophile rapists?
I don't understand how on earth someone can be educated in a well respected university ike Harvard, own a successful business have not enough savvy to form a coherent thought. I know high school drop outs who seem to have their thought processes together better than some/most of these politicians.
