The Royal Wedding

I realise I should've added a list of comedians who do rely on repetition...

Benny Hill
Harry Enfield

Er... help me out.

Many sketch shows feature running jokes. That's not necessarily a bad thing, is it?

By the way, Hytega, that clip you posted was about as funny to me as watching paint dry. I was waiting for the bit that came along and subverted my expectations, but it was just a contrast between two stereotypes. Can't really see the humour there. I guess it just shows how subjective comedy can be...

True, but that's not what I'm disputing... Sure, we had The Fast Show, (a show that pretty much skips straight to the punchlines for those unfamiliar), and Little Britain, but they're the exception rather than the rule.

I'm sure I started a great sketch thread somewhere... should resurrect it.

As for Hytegia's video... yeah, nearly as funny as Candid Camera, i.e. not in the slightest. Compared with America's great comic traditions, it's a rather depressing few minutes. Lenny Bruce must be spitting in his grave.

^^Little Britain was better on the radio, whereas Mitchell & Webb were pretty much the same.

Isn't that the core of most comedy?

Which? The contrasting of stereotypes, or comedy's subjective nature?

Nobody's mentioned the best show ever: Coupling!

This is what was meant by the original comment that got this giggle-train on a roll.
IMHO, the best opinion comes from laughing at stupidity and satirical comments.

Well observation of the human condition is, but you need to do something a bit more subtle or unexpected than pointing out that a stereotypical rapper is not the same as a stereotypical white college educated man.

Brain surgeon is crap, Mitchell and Webb do have some hilarious sketches,

but my absolute favorite is "Would I Lie To You" with David Mitchell and Lee Mack, I just die laughing. I just love that it's spontaneous, they don't try to be funny, they just find themselves talking about weird things and always pull out something original and funny, It's natural.

coupling was okay at first but it's way too repetitive. Armstrong and Miller is also stuck on the same situations which talks about lack of imagination, they also pull out something fantastic sometimes, just need to be a bit better imo.

That's all I know about British humor. thank you YouTube.

So are you suggesting that we have no political satirists in Britain?

Not with the quality of here in America.
I mean, look at Fox News. It's shit, alright - but it's an endless supply. Comedians like Lewis Black and Colbert have been able to convert it into pure, methane-powered supercharged laugh factory capable of pumping out 20,000 lulz/second.

Do they have political Satire in Britain? Yes.
Does it compare to the sheer amounts of raw fuel spat out by the Tea-Party nutters and Fox News? Not by any measure.

Ah yes, Coupling. Whenever I sell that show to my philistine friends here in the States, I describe it as, "like Friends; only funny"
