I just watched the movie, "The Room".

Have any of you seen this absolute gem of a film?

If not, then see it. NOW!

Preferably watch it together with a few other people. Preferably people in a good mood. Drunk if need be.

Oh not this again. I've seen this pop up on other forums. Whether it was intentional or not, I can't bear to watch this movie for too long.

I've heard nothing but bad things about this movie.

That's because it is ALL bad. There is nothing in the movie that is done well, really. It is hilariously bad. Cringingly bad. Funnily bad. Badily bad.
I laughed more while watching this movie than I did watching the last 10 comedy movies I've seen combined.

Sure, it helped that I watched it with some friends, with whom it's become something of a sport to watch appalling movies for the fun of it.

It's become a cult phenomenon, just like Ed Wood movies and The Rocky Horror Picture show.
And I can really understand why:

The plot is clichéd and pointless. It's been seen before, but not this bad.

The pacing is horrendous. It's immensely slow most of the time, but other times it just jumps ahead wildly.

While the cameras themselves seem to be good quality, the camera work is lacking. Sometimes people with dialogue are only halfway in the picture.

The in-scene editing as such was probably the least badly done thing, but the overall editing left the story disjointed and weird, with entire plot points missing and unresolved.

The dialogue is hilariously bad. Like, really, really, reaaaally bad. It doesn't help that most of it is dubbed afterwards - poorly. Nor does the way the dialogue is delivered help, which brings us to:

The acting... which is really the crowning achievement in the movie. The main character, which btw is played by the director/producer/writer of the movie, Tommy Wiseau, is not just mindbogglingly terrible at acting, he is incapable of showing any real emotion other than a really creepy smirk.
The rest of the cast is just a huddled bunch of amateurs, for which you have sympathy for, having been thrown together in this... this... Cinecide of a movie, at the whim of its atrociously incompetent auteur.

The result is a symbiosis of such epic film fail proportion the likes you've never seen.

Of course... your enjoyment of this film depends on whether or not you're able to enjoy really bad movies. Like I said, it's best to see it with friends in merry company. If you're not a person who can do that, you'll hate every 99 minutes of fail the movie lasts.

Wow. I can honestly say me and my brother's acting in a shitty amateur Harry Potter spoof (shot in glorious 240p!) aged about 12 and 9 respectively is approaching the quality of the acting in this scene

My only concern is that the makers of that movie might still be earning royalties.......as opposed to receiving the fatal beatings they so richly deserve.

Oh.. oh... try this one!

Acting at its finest, those clenched fists make it look ever so convincing. I can almost feel his pain.

you are kidding me.. your brother and you couldn't have been THAT bad

lol, even at that age, we were doing it with a heavy sense of irony. Took about an afternoon to shoot, but found out later that .mov files don't work with movie maker so we couldn't edit them together and upload. I could do it in seconds these days and it's still on my computer somewhere... but I think I'd die of shame to even watch what I thought was genuinely funny all those years ago.

I don't like bad films.

Does it seem weird that one has to say it explicitly? :)

Heh, I might just put it up at some point, but damned if I'm making it public. :)
There's a nifty option that allows only people with a link to find it, I think. But honestly it's just kids with a camera who think what they're doing is good/funny when it's actually shit.

If you're not into the whole "it's so bad it's good" thing, you can watch some professionals heckle it:

Here's a second opinion from someone who did the cameo in your posted review, Obscurus Lupa:

No need to be ashamed, actually you would do us a great favor!
