I am going to update this post later with another point regarding the fact that early Christian sects called themselves the Nazarenes which points to them being proud of the title rather than it being an embarassment

EDIT:

Scrap that idea, I can't find anything verifiable that suggests the term was one that Christians applied to themselves.
